The Castle of Lord Chirpwick is a Monument that you can build in Cities: Skylines if you have the Parklife DLC.

To unlock the Castle of Lord Chirpwick you have to reach the Megalopolis milestone, unlock all 9 map tiles, and you’ll need to build these unique buildings:

All of the six unique buildings listed above are also from the Parklife DLC. Once you have unlocked and built those six buildings, you will be able to build the Castle of Lord Chirpwick from the Monuments menu for 1,900,000.

Note: Once it’s constructed, the Castle of Lord Chirpwick will increase the attractiveness of all the unique buildings in your city by 25%. The Castle of Lord Chirpwick also acts as a leisure establishment, with an entertainment value of 100 and a visitor capacity of 400.

Here’s a quick guide to help you unlock all of the unique buildings needed for this castle.

Unlocking the City Arch simply requires you to build a park area gate.

‘Park area gate’ refers to a gate from one of the four park area types you can build from the Parklife DLC: City Park, Zoo, Nature Reserve, and Amusement Park.

The City Park is the first park type you can build. It is unlocked when you reach the Tiny Town milestone. Here’s a short tutorial on how it works:

Step 1: Paint a park area by selecting the Paint Park Area tool from the Districts and Areas menu. Build at least one road leading into the area.

To unlock the Clock Tower, you’ll need to build two service buildings that come with the Parklife DLC:

  • The Park Maintenance Building

You’ll find this under the Tours tab of the Transport menu.

Unlocking the Old Market Street requires 5,000 meters of walking tours.

This isn’t too tricky, but here’s another mini-tutorial to get you started:

Step 1: Select the Walking Tours Point of Interest tool

Go to the Transport menu, then the Tours tab, and then select the Walking Tours Point of Interest tool.

While this is selected, the map will highlight the parts of your city that will be interesting to tourists. The darker the purple, the more attractive it is to tourists.

Step 2: Place stops at different attractions

Using the Point of Interest tool, create a route that stops at these different attractions.

Note that the route will have to form a loop (i.e., you have to end it at the same stop where you started).

Note: The 5,000 meters do not need to belong to just one route. You can make multiple routes in different parts of your city that all count towards the total number of meters required for the unlock.

You’ll find the Sea Fortress in the Level 4 Unique Buildings tab. To unlock it, you’ll need to have a park area reach level 5.

Every park area that you create can level up to 5. You get a level 1 park simply by painting a park area and placing a main gate within it.

Leveling up requires hitting milestones in terms of entertainment value and total visitors over time.

Each attraction, facility or decoration you add to your park adds to its entertainment value. More park assets, with higher entertainment values, become available to you as you level up.

Here are quick tips to help you level up your park!

Tip #1: Stack your park assets to accumulate entertainment value

The entertainment value of multiple instances of park features and facilities stack.

For example, you can place several gazebos in your city park to accumulate enough entertainment points to reach a higher level.

Decorations also add to your entertainment.

Placing lots of trees, benches, and flower beds will help you level, as well as making your park look nice.

Tip #2: Provide public transportation

Making sure your park is easily accessible is key for getting more visitors.

Have a bus stop or tram stop nearby, or add a metro/monorail station a short walk away.

To unlock the Observation Tower, your city needs to be visited by 300 tourists in a week.

Here are a few ways to increase the number of tourist visits you get:

Tip #1: Add parks and plazas

Adding parks and plazas is the simplest way to increase your city’s land value, which makes it attractive to tourists.

Tip #2: Build unique buildings

Chances are, you already have various unique buildings unlocked (or can unlock some with minimal effort, such as the lower-level ones).

These can bring loads of tourists so consider building them as long as you can afford both the build cost and the weekly upkeep.

Tip #3: Provide mass transportation going into your city

Without mass transportation, tourists will have to drive into your city individually.

Help more people visit by creating mass transport options that make use of your external connections. These transport tourists into your city in large groups at a time.

The Intercity Bus is the most affordable option and the earliest to unlock.

Tip: Later in the game, trains and cruise ships can bring in tourists in much greater numbers.

The Statue of Colossalus requires having one park area of each type reach level 5 (i.e., one city park, one amusement park, one nature reserve, and one zoo).

The tips above for unlocking the Sea Fortress (reaching a level 5 area) apply to all the park area types.

And the different types have identical milestone targets except for the city park, which has slightly lower ones.

How To Reach the Megalopolis Milestone

All monuments can only be built upon reaching the final population milestone: Megalopolis.

Depending on the map, this can require 20,000 to 90,000 citizens.

Generally the more buildable land a map has, the more citizens it requires to reach each milestone.

Unlocking All 9 Tiles

Without mods, the game starts you off with one tile and allows you to expand to 9.

You unlock the remaining 8 tiles at different milestones:

Tile Milestone
1 N/A (game start)
2 Worthy Village
3 Boom Town
4 Big Town
5 Big City
6 Capital City
7 Colossal City
8 Metropolis
9 Megalopolis

Each time you hit one of these milestones, you can choose a new tile to purchase by going to the Areas panel.

Note: You can only purchase a tile that is adjacent to ones you already own. And each succeeding tile is also more expensive than the previous one.

Tile prices can also vary depending on the map. Tiles with more buildable land tend to be more expensive.

Quick Tips for Unlocking the Castle of Lord Chirpwick

Tip #1: Build park areas early for the Statue of Colossalus

This level 6 unique building is the most difficult to unlock among the six required for the Castle of Lord Chirpwick.

Since parks need to hit total visitor milestones in order to level up, it will take a fair amount of time to get all park types to reach level 5.

So it’s best to start your park areas as soon as you unlock and can afford them.

Tip #2: A few notes about synchronizing the unlocks together

  • You’ll need a level 5 park area (of any type) for the Sea Fortress. Once you have this, you’ll only need to work on the three other park types to get the Statue of Colossalus.
  • The park gate you’ll need for the City Arch can be used as a starting point for those park areas.
  • Building and leveling up these park areas can help significantly towards hitting the 300 weekly tourists you need for the Observation Tower.
  • The walking tours you need to create for the Old Market Street can go through your park areas, which can help get more visitors to the park.
