The Ski Resort is a unique building from the Cities: Skylines Snowfall DLC.

To unlock it, you must:

  • Fill 1 Snow Dump
  • Play on a winter map with dynamic weather enabled
  • Reach the Worthy Village milestone (240 – 950 population, depending on the map)

Once that’s done, you can build the Ski Resort from the Winter tab of the Unique Buildings menu for 120,000.

Winter Maps

As of version 1.15, the game has the following official maps, available with the Snowfall DLC:

  • Frosty Rivers
  • Icy Islands
  • Winter Hills
  • Frozenshire
  • Snowy Coast
You can also get other user-made maps from the Steam Workshop / Cities: Skylines

How to Build & Use the Snow Dump

You’ll occasionally get snowfall when playing on a winter map, provided that dynamic weather is enabled.

Dynamic weather can be toggled in the in-game options / Cities: Skylines

When this happens, snow will accumulate on your roads (except for dirt roads). You’ll need to build a snow dump to deal with this.

The snow dump sends out plows to drive around getting snow off your roads, and transporting them back to the dump.

You can build the snow dump from the Road Maintenance tab of the Roads menu, for ₡5,000.

Filling a Snow Dump

Expect it to take a while to fill a snow dump, and you’ll likely have a fairly large city by the time you accomplish this.

First: because snow isn’t constantly falling in-game.

And second: because the snow stored in the dump slowly melts.

This makes it difficult to fill a snow dump especially if your city is still small, and therefore don’t have a lot of roads to clear. A snow dump has a capacity of 250,000 units of snow!

If you have the budget, you may be able to “cheese” this unlock by building more roads than you actually need. Just don’t forget that dirt roads don’t count for this!

Planning Ahead to Unlock Winter Unique Buildings

If you’d like to unlock the other Winter Unique Buildings as well, plan the order in which you try to get them.

The unlocking requirement for the Ski Resort works against the requirement for the Snowcastle Restaurant, which is for 200,000 units of snow to accumulate on your roads.

(In other words, using your snow dumps to clear the roads will keep undoing your progress towards the Snowcastle Restaurant.)

Take note as well that the Snowcastle Restaurant is itself one of the requirements for building another winter unique building, the Igloo Hotel.

So you may want to unlock the Snowcastle Restaurant first before you build your snow dump for the Ski Resort.

On the other hand, working to unlock the Ski Resort helps you along towards unlocking the Spa Hotel, which requires you to collect 1,000,000 units of snow from the roads.
