The Snowcastle Restaurant is a unique building from the Cities: Skylines Snowfall DLC.

To unlock it, you must:

  • Have 200,000 units of snow covering your roads
  • Reach the Worthy Village milestone (240 – 950 population, depending on the map)

Once these requirements are met, you’ll be able to build the Snowcastle Restaurant from the Winter Unique Buildings menu for ₡165,000.

Until then, you can check your progress by hovering over its silhouette in the menu.

How Snowfall & Accumulation on Roads Work

Snow will occasionally fall on winter maps as long as dynamic weather is on.

The amount of snowfall will vary, from light showers to snowstorms.

When this happens, snow accumulates on roads, with the exception of dirt roads. Roads that are severely affected will show a warning icon.

The snow on your roads will slowly melt away, but if you want to clear it faster you’ll need a snow dump.

Note: The Snowcastle Restaurant is a requirement for another winter unique building, the Igloo Hotel.

So with this in mind, let’s cover a few tips to help you get this unique building unlock.

Tip #1: DON’T Build a Snow Dump

Hold off on building a snow dump if you’re trying to unlock the Snowcastle Restaurant.

That’s because the 200,000 units of snow has to be covering your roads concurrently (not as a total over time).

Any operational snow dumps will undo your progress towards the unlock.

Tip #2: Have a Lot of Extra Roads

For this unlock, all you really have to do is wait for snow showers and storms to do their job.

However, 200,000 units is a large amount.

So you’ll need plenty of road length to accumulate that much.

Apart from just expanding your city normally, you can also just build extra roads that you don’t need yet, as long as you have spare cash.

On top of helping you reach the target, it will also mean that the 200,000 units of snow are spread out, and not all just piled on your roads that have zoning and city service buildings on them.

Tip #3: Decide Whether You Want the Snowcastle Restaurant (and Igloo Hotel), Ski Resort, or Spa Hotel First

Unlocking the Ski Resort (another winter unique building) requires you to fill a snow dump, while the Spa Hotel requires collecting 1,000,000 units of snow.

So trying to unlock either of those at the same time will work against trying to unlock the Snowcastle Restaurant, since the snow on your road will keep being cleared by the plows from the snow dump.

Keep in mind that the Snowcastle Restaurant is also a requirement for the Igloo Hotel.

So you may want to unlock those two first before trying to go for the Ski Resort or Spa Hotel.
