Rebena Te Ra Dungeon Guide + Map (FFCC Remastered)

Rebena Te Ra Screenshot Postcard from FFCC Remastered

Rebena Te Ra is a dungeon in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, accessible from Year 4.

You’ll find it on the western edge of the Rebena Plains region, across the river from Conall Curach.

Location of Rebena Te Ra on the world map / FFCC Remastered
Location of Rebena Te Ra on the world map.

Players must change their Crystal Chalice’s element to Water at the Mushroom Forest in Iron Mine Downs before boarding the ferry to cross the Jegon River into the Plains of Fum.

This will allow them to cross the western Miasma Stream into the Rebena Plains.

Here is the fastest, most straightforward route to the boss:

  1. Collect chests in the starting area for essential magicite.
  2. Defeat an enemy in the northwestern corner to obtain the key to the nearby gate and go through it.
  3. Place your chalice on one switch and stand on the other to open the next barrier.
  4. Cross into the next area through the passage north of your position.
  5. Use specific spells followed by melee damage to disarm the glowing orbs blocking your way (orb color = required spell).
  6. Turn east at the earliest opportunity and continue until finding a new type of magic lock involving some square platforms.
  7. Take damage from the nearby Mage Skeleton while standing on the platform to open the gate.
  8. Follow the road until finding four such platforms. Head south, and you’ll find two more. Take Fire damage on one and Blizzard damage on the other to open the gate.
  9. Keep heading straight south until you find the stairs leading up the pyramid.
  10. Step on the button on top to open the boss gate.
  11. Backtrack to the dungeon entrance and go north into the boss room.

Below we’ll cover a more detailed walkthrough, including the location of every chest and where to get your Moogle Stamp for this dungeon.

Walkthrough

Rebena Te Ra focuses less on combat and more on puzzles.

Some of these challenges are easier to clear in multiplayer, but we’ll cover the specifics of how you can get everything in this dungeon in single-player too.

Step #1: Defeat the Mimics

Walk north after spawning to find two identical chests waiting to be claimed.

Look out! One of these chests is a mimic, and it’ll attack you when you open it.

Mimic attacks player after failed opening attempt / FFCC Remastered
Mimic attacks player after failed opening attempt.

There’s no way to tell mimics apart from regular chests by sight, so just hit both with a Focus Attack and see what happens.

Tip: Mimics are weak to all elemental damage.

The real chest should contain Raise.

Now, head straight left until you find another set of identical chests. You’ll fight a Skeleton on the way, who’ll drop you some magicite.

Again, one is a mimic, so attack the chests to open them. The real one will drop Blizzard.

You’ll also see two transparent Ghosts roaming around the treasure chests.

Tip: Use Holy (F/B/T + Raise) to make Ghosts vulnerable to damage.

Defeat the Ghosts to get Cure, another essential magicite.

A final set of chests awaits to the right of this starting area. Expect a Skeleton and another Ghost guarding these chests.

Kill the mimic and get the Blizzard magicite before heading back to the southwestern corner of the map.

Step #2: Open the Gates

From here, head north, going down the stairs into a maze-like area full of dilapidated structures.

The easiest way through is to stick to the left wall.

The easiest way through the ruined district / FFCC Remastered

On the northwestern corner of this area, you’ll fight a Sonic Bat that drops a crescent moon key.

You could use it to open the nearby gate if you were in a hurry, but if you want 100% completion, you must carry the key to the opposite side of the starting area.

Make your way back to the beginning of the level, then head northeast into a small grassy field. You’ll be attacked by some Skeletons, so drop the key for a moment and take care of them.

Go up the northern stairs and brace for combat against a Ghost, two Skeletons, and a Nightmare.

  • Ghosts and Nightmares are weak to Holy and must be hit with it at least once before they can take damage from anything else.
  • Skeletons are weak to Fire, but Holy is fine too.

Once you’ve dealt with them, grab your crescent moon key and drop it on the altar to open the gate to the north.

Take a hard left as you cross the gate and follow the stone path south to find a chest and another crescent moon key.

Collect the Artifact in the chest, then carry the key back to the gate on the opposite side of the map and open it.

Step #3: Enter the Next Area

Cross the newly opened passage to find a purple energy field preventing you from advancing toward a couple of chests.

The octagonal plates on the ground are activated by weight, so place the Crystal Chalice on one of them and stand on the other. This will dispel the energy field.

One of these chests is a mimic, and the other contains a second Raise magicite. Take care of them.

Beware of the Gargoyle to the north spitting fire and thunder balls at you while dealing with the mimic. Other enemies around here include Skeletons and Nightmares.

Tip: Gargoyles are immobilized and weakened by Gravity.

We need to move north into the next area, but there are two ways forward.

One lies north of the last pair of chests, and the other is to the right, next to a purple force field.

Both eventually lead to the same place but take the left path if you want more treasure.

Step #4: Explore Area #2 (West Side)

Kill the Gargoyle that’ll attack you immediately for another Cure magicite, then open the chest to the southwest before bringing your full attention to the gate.

First glowing orb gate / FFCC Remastered

These locks can be deactivated by casting the right magic spell on the glowing orb, then hitting it with a melee attack.

The color of the orb reflects what spell is required. This one requires Blizzard, so set that on your Command List and get casting.

Cross the gate into a small enclosure with a Wraith and another gate. This one requires Fire.

The next area is a lot tougher.

Enemies and chest near the double glowing orb puzzle / FFCC Remastered
Enemies and chest near the double glowing orb puzzle.

First, you’ll be ambushed by a large enemy group, including your first Cerberus.

Tip: Cerberus is resistant to Fire but weak to Blizzard. Holy is effective too.

Now, you must open an especially tricky gate with not one but two glowing orbs that must be destroyed simultaneously to clear the force field.

This is extremely easy in multiplayer but requires some creative thinking to get done in SP.

Your options include:

  • Option #1: Making Mog cast magic on one orb while you cast on the other.
  • Option #2: Casting a -ga level spell, then quickly switching to the basic version of the other spell and casting that. It should give you enough time due to -ga spells being slow.

Tip: Mog needs to rest a bit after casting. Fight some enemies if he’s out of juice. Mog will say, “Hang in there, kupo!” when he’s charged back up.

If you have the required magicite, Option #2 is easier to pull off, but every millisecond counts.

Once it’s all set, cross the gate and collect the chest immediately to your left, then defeat the Gargoyle and Skeleton Mage further north.

You’ll find another passage blocked by a purple force field, but the switch is on the other side this time.

Casting Holy through the force field / FFCC Remastered
Casting Holy through the force field.

Luckily, this one doesn’t have to be hit with melee. Just hit it with any spell through the force field, and you can step through.

Enter the new area and brace for combat against another Gargoyle and other minor monsters.

You’ll finally come across four chests arranged around some flowers. Only one of these is real. You know what to do.

Once you’ve collected your treasure, head back to where you simultaneously destroyed the two glowing orbs.

You’ll notice another force field blocking a road headed east. Use Thunder and melee to open the way forward, but don’t step through.

Step #5: Explore Area #2 (Center)

We must go back and get a chest from the other path through Area #2.

Return to the starting area, back to the place with the blocking force field next to a Gargoyle.

Center passage into Area #2 from Area #1 / FFCC Remastered
Center passage into Area #2 from Area #1.

Enter Area #2 through this passage and turn left once inside to find a chest protected by a single Skeleton.

Collect the Recipe inside and walk to the right of the room.

You’ll find yet another door-opening mechanism next to a Skeleton Mage. We need it to open the gate, so resist your urges to kill it.

A player must take magic damage on the platform to open the gate. And each platform requires a specific magic type.

Tip: The platform will glow a specific color whenever you step on it. That’s how you know which element opens it.

First magic damage platform / FFCC Remastered
First magic damage platform.

This one is blue, so it needs Blizzard.

Tip: There’s always a Skeleton Mage somewhere close to these platforms. If you kill it, walk away until you hear it respawn.

Let the Skeleton Mage cast the right magic type on you to open the gate before killing it and moving on.

A large group of enemies, including three Gargoyles, will immediately ambush you.

Tip: The Gargoyles will try to lure you west toward the rest of the enemies. Don’t fall for it.

Try not to kill the Skeleton Mage among them so you can open the nearby gate right away.

This one requires Fire, which is this Skeleton Mage’s favorite spell.

Cross through the now-open gate and fight through some enemies to get back to where we were at the end of Step #4.

Step #6: Get the Moogle Stamp

You’ll notice a gate to the north that needs the classic crescent moon token to open.

It’s rather far from here, so get moving.

Third magic damage platform / FFCC Remastered

Open the gate to the northeast by taking Thunder damage on the platform, then follow the path through the gate, looking out for Wraiths and a Cerberus.

You’ll eventually reach another locked gate with four platforms in front of it instead of just one.

Four magic damage platforms puzzle / FFCC Remastered

To activate it, take fire damage from the nearby Skeleton Mage and run over all four platforms while you’re still on fire. This should open the gate.

Before moving northward, collect the treasure chest right from the gate, then step through.

Here’s another puzzle that’s extremely easy as a group but a true feat of gaming prowess in single-player.

Two sets of buttons each control two moving platforms.

Buttons that control the movement of certain blocks / FFCC Remastered
Buttons that control the movement of certain blocks.

Using this to cross to the other side of the wall is simple.

  1. Use the first block (red) as an elevator to reach the buttons that move the right-side wall (B1).
  2. Lower the wall (cyan).
  3. Return to the ground floor and cross over.

This is useful for finding a chest with a lovely Recipe, but it’s not the end of the story.

The crescent moon key we’re looking for is on the wall, far to the right.

Location of key to Moogle Nest area / FFCC Remastered
Location of key to Moogle Nest area.

Reaching it requires you to stand on the right side of the wall (★) before it’s raised.

That’s simple in multiplayer, but we need to make magic happen to get it by ourselves.

Try this:

  1. Climb onto the highest wall level (B2).
  2. Place the Crystal Chalice on the Up switch before quickly getting off, so only the Chalice remains on the top level.
  3. Use the left-side buttons (B1) to lower the wall and run back to ground level.
  4. Get in position (★) before the weight of the Crystal Chalice pushes the Up switch again.
  5. Step out of the Chalice’s protection to get the key. Miasma damage makes carrying it impossible, so try to push it back to safety.

Retrieve your Crystal Chalice and carry the key back to the gate so you can enter this area.

You’ll find the Moogle Nest in a rather prominent location immediately to the right. There’s also an Artifact chest further north.

Collect the Artifact and your Moogle Stamp before returning to the place with the four platforms.

Step #7: Exit Area #2 via Southeastern Road

Head south to find two more platforms.

Two magic damage platforms puzzle / FFCC Remastered

This time, you must take Fire damage on one and Blizzard damage on the other.

Conveniently, the nearby Mage Skeletons cast those spells.

There’s no rush here. Just activate them one by one, and the way will open.

After that, run south past the Gargoyles, and you’ll return to Area #1 from a new angle.

Step #8: Reach the Boss Room

Go down the nearby stairs and kill the Gargoyle so you can stand on the switch and remove the force field blocking the way west. This will help you later.

Go back upstairs and head south, making your way over the debris to the side of the pyramid. Keep heading south, past two Ghosts, and climb the stairs to the top of the pyramid.

Go down the stairs to the left and head northward to find a chest. You’ll also come across a glowing white orb. Cast magic on it to deactivate the force field below.

To reach that place, make your way back to the stairs where we defeated the Gargoyle and removed a force field. Then head south at the earliest opportunity.

You’ll walk past where the force field used to be and into some Gargoyles. Defeat them and keep walking south to find a chest containing a valuable Recipe (or Gil).

Finally, make your way back to the very beginning of the level and walk north, up the stairs, and into the pyramid to face the boss.

Boss: Lich

The Lich makes an entrance / FFCC Remastered
The Lich makes an entrance.

The Lich is a powerful boss with a straightforward battle strat based on bombarding you with various spells.

Defeating it is also pretty simple.

Tip #1: Beat the Skeletons First

The Lich’s chosen support is the humble Skeleton soldier.

Skeleton chases the player during Lich boss fight / FFCC Remastered
Skeleton chases the player during Lich boss fight.

They’re not super strong, but you won’t be able to get anything done with this guy pestering you.

Fire, Holy, and good-old melee damage are all very effective against the Skeleton.

Tip #2: Deactivate the Orbs Protecting the Lich

There are two glowing orbs on the right and left sides of the battlefield.

Glowing orbs pictured during the cinematic / FFCC Remastered
Glowing orbs pictured during the cinematic.

They work the same as the ones we saw while exploring the dungeon, except these give the Lich a force field that makes it untouchable.

Cast the corresponding spell to deactivate them and remove the barrier before focusing on the boss.

Tip #3: Cast Holy to Make the Lich Vulnerable

The last barrier between you and victory is that the Lich is an ethereal being.

Like Ghosts and Wraiths, the only way to make the Lich corporeal is to hit it with the Holy spell.

Cast Holy to Make the Lich Vulnerable / FFCC Remastered

This spell also significantly damages the Lich, so you can rely on it to bring down its entire HP.

Another solid strategy is to alternate between casting Holy and battering the boss with your melee weapon.

The next time you come to collect myrrh, you’ll notice stronger enemies with better drops. Treasure chests have better rewards as well.

Your fight against the Lich will also be a little harder thanks to a new move with remarkable range.

The boss sends out a yellow shockwave that can deal significant damage and knock you down, leaving you vulnerable to damage for a bit.

Obtainable Items

You’ll find Artifacts, crafting Recipes, and Materials throughout the dungeon. You get to keep all Recipes and Materials, but you can only choose one Artifact to take with you.
