FFXIV Neverreap: How To Unlock + Dungeon Guide

Neverreap Dungeon Exterior Screenshot (FFXIV)

You can unlock the Level 60 dungeon Neverreap by accepting the Level 60 quest “Reap What You Sow” from Sanu Vanu in The Sea of Clouds (X:11.8, Y:14.8). However, you’ll need to finish the Level 60 Main Scenario Quest “Heavensward” from the Guidance Node in Azys Lla (X:16.0, Y:22.0) before the quest becomes available.

Let’s go through the unlock requirements + all the boss mechanics below:

Step-by-Step Unlock Guide

Entrance to Neverreap / FFXIV
Entrance to Neverreap
  1. Finish the Level 60 MSQ “Heavensward” from the Guidance Node in Azys Lla (X:16.0, Y:22.0).
  2. Accept the Level 60 quest “Reap What You Sow” from Sanu Vanu in The Sea of Clouds (X:11.8, Y:14.8).
  3. Meet Tonu Vanu outside Neverreap’s entrance in The Sea of Clouds (X:40.4, Y:7.8).

Detailed Unlocking Guide

Before you begin unlocking Neverreap, make sure you’ve completed the Level 60 MSQ “Heavensward” from the Guidance Node in Azys Lla (X:16.0, Y:22.0).

Finishing this MSQ allows you to unlock the expert-level dungeons for the Heavenward expansion, including Neverreap. You’ll need to finish every MSQ leading up to “Heavensward,” including MSQs from the A Realm Reborn expansion.

Sanu Vanu of the Zundu / Final Fantasy XIV
Sanu Vanu of the Zundu

Once you finish the required MSQ, travel to The Sea of Clouds (X:11.8, Y:14.8) and accept the Level 60 quest “Reap What You Sow” from Sanu Vanu.

The anxious Vanu Vanu will ask for your help with retrieving a Sanuwa scale.

His tribe, the Zundu, plans to use the scale to create a new tribal mask for their chief.

His mask, a Vanu Vanu chief’s representation of power, has worn out over the years and needs a replacement. Only the scale of the giant Sanuwa, Waukkeon from Neverreap, is a good enough material for the new mask.

Unfortunately, the Vundu tribe has taken over Neverreap, preventing the Zundu from harvesting the scale.

Sanu Vanu will ask for your help in getting the scale. Head to Neverreap’s entrance in The Sea of Clouds (X:40.4, Y:7.8) and talk to Tonu Vanu to continue.

You’ll only have a brief conversation with Tonu Vanu before the dungeon unlocks.

Neverreap requires at least a Level 60 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 145 to enter. Once you enter the dungeon, talk to Tonu Vanu again to obtain the thunder eggs required to use the Cloud Altars.

This dungeon has quite a few interesting mechanics that may confuse you during your first visit. But we’ve created detailed boss guides to help you clear the dungeon smoothly.

Boss #1: Nunyenunc

The cloudkin Nunyenunc / Final Fantasy XIV

Mechanics:

  • Filoplumes: A cleaving tankbuster attack on the primary target.
  • Feather Squall: Random players will be targeted with circle AoEs.
  • Sideslip: A room-wide AoE attack. Mitigate and heal through the damage.
  • Countershade: The boss will cover the arena with mist and go into hiding. During this time, all players will get a stacking “Dropsy” DoT that ticks up every few seconds. The boss will also spam “Feather Squall” around the arena. Run around the room until you see the “Nunyenunc’s Shadow” mob and kill it to remove the mist.
  • Nunyenunc’s Feather: After the boss returns, it’ll spawn feathers that will explode after some time. Kill these feathers immediately.
  • Pellet (Nunyenunc’s Feather): A room-wide AoE explosion that applies a stacking “Vulnerability Up” debuff.

Mechanics:

  • Vanu Stripe: A telegraphed frontal cleave attack on the primary target.
  • Morrowcloud: A single-target attack on a random player that applies a “Bleeding” DoT. Dispel the debuff.
  • Sacred Totem + Totem Chant: One random player will be marked with an orange marker. After some time, a “Vanu Totem” will drop on them that anyone can interact with. Then, the boss will cast “Totem Chant” to resurrect the totem.

If the totem is brought to life, it will tether to the boss, making him invincible and granting him a “Damage Up” buff. Carry the totem and drop it away from the purple resurrection circle.

  • Wriggle (Canu Vanu’s totem): A near instant-cast AoE around the totem.

Mechanics:

The arena doesn’t have barriers, so don’t fall off!

  • Fin Rays: A cleaving tankbuster on the primary target. Face the boss away from the party at all times. This attack also grants the boss a stacking “Tailwind” buff that increases its evasion.
  • 74 Degrees: The boss will target a random player with an orange marker. Then, it’ll drop a “Divine Mist” water elemental on them. Destroy the elemental quickly to avoid unnecessary damage.
  • Windwall + Divine Gale: The boss will buff itself with “Windwall,” increasing its evasion to 100%. It’ll also spawn “Divine Gale” mobs that need to be killed to remove the buff. Immediately after the final “Divine Gale” is killed, the boss will use “Turbine.”
  • Turbine: A room-wide knockback attack emanating from the boss. Let yourself get knocked back into open space, or use knockback immunity skills.
  • Tornadoes: The boss will constantly summon a moving tornado that knocks anyone it hits up in the air.
