Unlocking Snowcloak requires you to accept the MSQ “The Path of the Righteous” from Drillemont in Coerthas Central Highlands (X:12.7, Y: 17.4).

This quest is in the middle of the patch 2.4 Main Scenario Questline for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. You must complete every MSQ from patch 2.0 to 2.4 until you reach “The Path of the Righteous” before you can unlock Snowcloak.

Once you’ve finished the backlog of MSQs, talk to Drillemont to start the quest.

As the chase for Lady Iceheart continues, Ishgardian Temple Knights and Crystal Braves mount an offensive against her stronghold, Snowcloak.

Based on recent discoveries, Lord Drillemont is certain your allies are in danger of getting ambushed by heretics. Warn Aymeric in Coerthas Central Highlands (X:3.2, Y: 21.4) before it’s too late.

Upon arriving and talking to Aymeric, he thanks you for the warning and puts his knights on high alert.

He urges you to warn Alphinaud and the Crystal Braves of the danger as well. Speak with Alphinaud in Coerthas Central Highlands (X:3.3, Y: 21.3).

As you talk with Alphinaud, heretics come out of the shadows and lunge toward Alphinaud.

Luckily for him, Yda arrives to parry the attacks and disarm the heretics.

Shortly after, Papalymo and the Crystal Braves arrive on the scene to dispatch the heretics for good. You’ll learn from the Braves that tunnels leading into Snowcloak have been discovered, opening a way into Lady Iceheart’s lair.

After finishing the cutscene, speak with the Stalwart Temple Knight in Coerthas Central Highlands (X:3.1, Y: 21.3) to unlock Snowcloak. This dungeon requires at least a Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 80 to enter.

Boss #1: Wandil

The Ice Commander Wandil / Final Fantasy XIV
The Ice Commander Wandil

This fight is all about managing the “Frozen” debuff stacks. Do your best not to get 4 stacks, or you’ll be frozen for a long period.

Mechanics:

  • Ice Guillotine: A non-telegraphed frontal cleave tankbuster. Tanks should face the boss away from the party at all times.
  • Cold Wave: A targeted AoE that applies a two-minute “Frozen” debuff. Getting four stacks of this debuff will result in a “Deep Freeze” debuff, stunning you for 10 seconds.
  • Snow Drift: A room-wide AoE attack that applies “Frozen.” Mitigate and heal through the attack. Ideally, this should be the only attack that increases your “Frozen” stack.
  • Frost Bomb: Bomb mobs that explode after some time. Kill these immediately.
  • Hypothermal Combustion (Frost Bomb): A room-wide AoE explosion that inflicts “Frozen.”
  • Tundra: The boss will cover the outer edges of the arena with ice. Staying on the ice for longer than one second will increase your “Frozen” stack.

Mechanics:

  • Buffet: A telegraphed frontal cone AoE.
  • Northerlies: A room-wide AoE attack that spawns six snowballs. Afterward, the boss will blow onto two snowballs to make them bigger. Move away from the giant snowballs to avoid the next attack.
  • Updrift: Another room-wide AoE attack that launches the snowballs in the air, creating AoE circles underneath them. Move away from the large snowballs before they crash back down.
  • Spin: An inner AoE circle will be followed by a large donut AoE on the outer edges of the arena. Avoid the first AoE, then move into it to avoid the donut AoE.
  • Frozen Spike: The boss will target random players with icy AoE markers. Spread out to avoid overlapping damage.

Mechanics:

  • Thousand-year Storm: A room-wide AoE attack. Mitigate and heal through the damage.
  • Howling Moon: The boss will drop four icicles around the room. Use these icicles to avoid getting hit by “Lunar Cry.” Some icicles may turn purple and will shatter after “Lunar Cry.” Only stand behind blue icicles.
  • Lunar Cry: A room-wide AoE attack that applies a 10-second “Deep Freeze” debuff. Have an icicle between you and the boss, but don’t stand directly behind it to easily avoid the AoE once the icicles explode.
  • Ecliptic Bite: The primary target will be targeted with a red tankbuster marker. Use mitigation skills and heal through the damage.
  • Heavensward Roar: A 45-degree frontal cone without a telegraph. This attack also applies a 10-second “Deep Freeze” debuff. Move toward the boss’ flanks before the cast goes off.
