You can unlock the Level 47 normal-difficulty dungeon The Aurum Vale by accepting the quest “Going for Gold” from Nedrick Ironheart in Western Thanalan (X:12.0, Y:14.2).
We’ll cover a step-by-step guide to completing that quest & unlocking the dungeon, plus all the mechanics of the dungeon & possible rewards you can get.
Unlocking Quest: Going for Gold
“Going for Gold” can be unlocked by simply reaching Level 47. Do your MSQs, FATEs, and dungeon runs to level up quickly.
Once you get to Level 47, talk to Nedrick Ironheart in Western Thanalan (X:12.0, Y:14.2) to begin.
Similar to previous dungeons unlocked through Nedrick, he offers you another challenging environment to test and hone your skills: Aurum Vale.
The toxic valley is home to dangerous flora and fauna alike and is certainly worthy of a curious adventurer’s time. Speak with Willielmus outside the vale in Coerthas Central Highlands (X:14.3, Y:35 3) to continue.
After a brief conversation with the Hyur, Aurum Vale will be unlocked. This dungeon requires at least a Level 47 Disciple of War or Magic job to enter and has no item level requirement.
Boss #1: Locksmith
Mechanics:
- Goldbile: Yellow puddles around the arena will apply a constant “Goldbile” DoT.
- Hundred Lashings: A single-target tankbuster attack on the primary target. Shield and heal through the damage.
- Gold Rush: A room-wide AoE attack that applies a stacking “Gold Lung” DoT for 60 seconds. This can only be dispelled by eating the morbol fruits spread across the arena. Only interact with a fruit once you reach three stacks to spread them evenly.
- Gold Dust: The boss will target a random player with a large AoE circle.

- Glower: A line attack towards a random player that applies a “Paralysis” debuff for 30 seconds on hit. Dispel the debuff should anyone get hit.
- Animal Instinct: When the boss’ HP drops below 50%, a prompt saying “The Coincounter takes a moment to reconsider…” will appear. Afterward, two new mechanics will appear.
- Eye of the Beholder: Long-range AoE attacks around the boss after “Animal Instinct.” Move inside his hitbox to avoid.
- 100-tonze Swipe (point-blank): A new variation of “100-tonze Swipe” after “Animal Instinct.” This will be a slower, larger point-blank AoE that also knocks players back.
