Drowned City of Skalla Dungeon in FFXIV

You can unlock the Level 70 normal-difficulty dungeon The Drowned City of Skalla by accepting the Level 70 MSQ “The Mad King’s Trove”. You can start this MSQ from Alphinaud in The Lochs (X:32.0, Y:33.0).

This MSQ is part of the patch 4.1 main storyline for the Stormblood expansion.

The Drowned City of Skalla is an expert-level dungeon made available in patch 4.1 of the Stormblood expansion. To unlock it, you’ll need finish every MSQ leading up to the “The Mad King’s Trove”. Once you’ve done that, speak with Alphinaud in The Lochs (X:32.0, Y:33.0) to begin.

In the main story, Arenvald and Alphinaud are searching for the mad King Theodoric’s lost treasure trove, and Alphinaud is ready to unveil his theory about its supposed location.

Follow him to the shores of Loch Seld in The Lochs (X:25.6, Y:28.2) to continue and trigger a cutscene.

Alphinaud will give you a brief history of Loch Seld and the ruins of Skalla underwater.

Based on the mad king’s scribe, the treasure lies in a “darkness beneath the palace,” leading Alphinaud to believe the treasure trove might be in the drowned city.

Alphinaud will have you dive underwater to check for any clues.

Head underwater to The Lochs (X:24.4, Y:21.2) and survey the destination point to continue.

After surveying the area, you’ll discover a passage that leads into the palace. Dive further in and interact with the stone door in The Lochs (X:26.6, Y:21.2).

In the following cutscene, you’ll have a brief chat with Alphinaud through the linkpearl before The Drowned City of Skalla is unlocked. This dungeon requires at least a Level 70 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 300 to enter.

Mechanics

  • Torpedo: A cleaving tankbuster attack on the primary target. Mitigate and heal through the damage.
  • Rising Seas: A room-wide AoE attack. After its first use, standing on the outer edges of the arena will result in a constant “Dropsy” DoT and apply a stacking “Water Resistance Down” debuff for 60 seconds.
  • Hydro Pull/Hydro Push: The boss will move to the north and either pull players toward it or push them away. Move near the boss for “Hydro Push” and move away from the boss for “Hydro Pull.” You can also use knockback-immunity skills to avoid the mechanic entirely.
  • Bloody Puddle: Up to two players will be targeted with AoEs that drop DoT puddles. Afterward, a large bubble will tether to the targeted player and follow them for a few seconds.

After some time, the bubble will explode, applying a stacking “Water Resistance Down” debuff for 60 seconds. Pull the bubbles around until they explode. Note that the boss will use “Hydro Push” or “Hydro Pull” while the bubbles are active.
