Detailed Unlocking Guide

“Brave New Companions” is part of the patch 2.3 main story questline for A Realm Reborn. You need to finish every MSQ leading up to it before it can be unlocked.

You can wrap up that questline from the NPC Slafborn in Mor Dhona (X:21.9, Y:7.8).

Once you’ve done that, talk to Scarlet in New Gridania (X:9.9, Y:11.4) to continue.

The Serpent Lieutenant bears bad news from Little Solace:

The primal Ramuh has been summoned once again.

Scarlet will have you go to Little Solace to discuss the matter with the sylphs’ elder and determine a course of action. After your quick briefing, speak with Dellexia at Little Solace in East Shroud (X:21.3, Y:26.8).

The elder Frixio will talk to you shortly after you arrive and warn you about Ramuh’s resummoning.

While your previous encounter with him may have been peaceful, Frixio fears that this reincarnation of the Levin Lord is more powerful and much less reasonable.

Fortunately, getting into Ramuh’s lair is just as easy this time.

Once you finish talking to Dellexia and Frixio, head to East Shroud (X:25.4, Y:17.0) and re-attune to the Sylphlands Aetheryte to unlock The Striking Tree (Extreme).

This trial requires at least a Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 85 to enter.

Trial Boss: Ramuh (Extreme)

This trial can be easily soloed with an unsynced high-level character. Burn the boss down and destroy the arbiters to clear the fight.

If you want to beat Ramuh EX while synced, read about his mechanics below:

Phase 1: Chaotic Strike and Shock Strike

Face the boss away from the party at all times. After every “Thunderstorm” cast, the water around the arena will be electrocuted, dealing extra damage to anyone standing inside. Stay in the dry area at all times.

  • Lightning Orbs: You’ll get a stacking “Electroconductivity” status for every orb you touch. Each orb that stays up will increase the boss’ damage. Prioritize giving the orbs to the tanks so they can handle “Shock Strike” properly.
  • Thunderstorm: Random players and certain areas around the arena will get a circle AoE. Spread out to avoid overlap. This mechanic will also be used to handle “Chaotic Strike.”
  • Thunderspark: A strong point-blank AoE around the boss that can easily kill players.
  • Shock Strike: A strong circular tankbuster on the primary target. Have the off-tank grab three “Lightning Orbs” to build up a “Surge Protection” shield, then provoke the boss during its cast. Both tanks will do this mechanic alternately throughout the fight.
Don’t take more than three orbs at a time, or you’ll get a 60-second “Static Condensation” debuff which reduces the healing you receive for each stack over three. Other players can only grab orbs after the tank confirms they have the shield up.
  • Chaotic Strike: Two random players will be targeted with orange markers. Then, they’ll receive a “Chaos” debuff for six seconds. This debuff turns into a longer “Seduced” debuff that forces players to run toward the next “Thunderspark” cast if not dispelled.
To handle this mechanic, place a waymarker south of the boss and have the marked players move to that spot. Then, clip the affected players with a “Thunderstorm” AoE.

Phase 2: Grey Arbiters

This is a DPS check phase. Kill one “Grey Arbiter” at a time to reduce incoming AoEs. You’ll need to handle Phase 1 mechanics while destroying the arbiters.

  • Grey Arbiter: At around 64% HP, the boss will summon six arbiters that fire line attacks and charge the boss’ ultimate attack. Kill one arbiter at a time in a clockwise order. Always make sure the boss is faced away from the party during this time.
  • Thunderbolt (Grey Arbiter): A non-telegraphed line attack. Stay on the arbiter’s flanks to avoid.
  • Increased Sentence (Grey Arbiter): Charges “Judgement Bolt” for each cast. Kill the arbiters immediately before “Judgement Bolt” is fully charged.
  • Judgement Bolt: A room-wide AoE ultimate attack that will kill your party if any arbiters are still alive during its cast.

Phase 3: Rolling Thunder

The fight will resume with the same mechanics as Phase 1, along with some new ones.

  • Rolling Thunder: The boss will tether a pair of players together and apply two constant status effects.“Causality” causes both players to take damage with every skill or attack they use. “Thunderclap” applies DoTs that stack the longer the players are tethered.
To remove the tether, have one player grab three “Lightning Orbs.” Coordinate with your tanks to ensure both groups have enough orbs to deal with the tether and “Shock Strike.”
  • Grey Arbiter (Phase 3): At 29% HP, the boss will summon untargetable arbiters that use “Thunderbolt.”
