FFXIV The Striking Tree (Hard): Unlock + Trial Guide

Ramuh HM Trial Boss in FFXIV

You can unlock the Level 50 trial The Striking Tree (Hard), also known as Ramuh HM, by accepting the Level 50 Main Scenario Quest “Levin an Impression” from Papalymo in East Shroud (X:23.5, Y:14.2).

Below we’ll cover the quest details to unlock this trial, plus battle mechanics for the trial itself.

The Level 50 Main Scenario Quest “Levin an Impression” is deep into the patch 2.3 Main Scenario Questline of A Realm Reborn.

You need to complete every MSQ leading up to it before it can be accepted. Once you’re ready, accept the quest from Papalymo in East Shroud (X:23.5, Y:14.2).

At this point in the story, you and your fellow scions are trying to identify where the Sylphs’ deity, Ramuh, will be summoned. Thanks to the aetheric readings collected by Papalymo, he has successfully located the summoning area. Investigate the area in East Shroud (X:25.1, Y:17.1).

Upon walking into the location, a long cutscene will trigger, confirming the emergence of the Lord of the Levin.

After finishing the cutscene, The Striking Tree (Hard) will be unlocked. This trial requires at least a Level 50 Disciple of War or Magic job and an average item level of 65 to enter.

The Striking Tree (Hard) is easily soloed with a high-level character while unsynced. However, you’ll need to do it synced if you encounter this trial if you’re queued for Duty Roulette: Trials.

Check out the boss guide below to help you with your synced runs.

Phase 1: Orbs + Chaotic Strike

Most of the mechanics in this phase are interconnected and will be reused throughout the fight, so familiarize yourself with each one.

  • Lightning Orbs: Each orb applies an “Electroconductivity” status on the player. In Phase 1, only the off-tank should be grabbing the orbs.
  • Thunderstorm: The boss will target three players with circular lightning AoEs. These AoEs will deal extra damage for each “Lightning Orb” in the arena. Have the off-tank grab as many orbs as possible to reduce incoming damage.
  • Thunderspark: A point-blank AoE attack. Move out as necessary.
  • Shock Strike: A heavy-hitting tankbuster on the primary target. Have the off-tank grab three “Lightning Orbs” to build up a “Surge Protection” shield. Then, after every second “Thunderstorm” cast, provoke the boss away from the main tank to soak the tankbuster. Both tanks will do this alternately throughout the fight.
Picking up more than three orbs will result in a “Static Condensation” debuff for 60 seconds, which reduces healing received for each stack after three. Though, having this status will still mitigate damage from “Shock Strike.”
  • Chaotic Strike: Two players will be marked with an orange marker. After a few seconds, they will be stunned for 40 seconds with “Terror.” Clip the affected player with a “Thunderstorm” AoE to dispel this debuff.

Phase 2: Grey Arbiters + Judgement Bolt

  • Grey Arbiter (Phase 2): At around 64% HP, the boss will summon three arbiters that fire line attacks and charge the boss’ ultimate attack. Kill them as soon as possible.
  • Thunderbolt (Grey Arbiter): A non-telegraphed line attack. Stay on the arbiter’s flanks to avoid.
  • Increased Sentence (Grey Arbiter): Each cast will charge the boss’ ultimate attack faster. You won’t be able to see how close the boss is to casting the attack, so just kill the arbiters as quickly as possible.
  • Judgement Bolt: A room-wide AoE ultimate attack that will wipe the party if the arbiters aren’t killed before the cast goes off. Kill the arbiters quickly and heal through the damage.

Phase 3: Rolling Thunder

Most of the mechanics from previous phases will be repeated in Phase 3.

  • Rolling Thunder: The boss will tether a pair of players together. Both players will get a constant “Causality” debuff. This debuff causes both players to take damage with every skill or attack they use. Only one player must grab three “Lightning Orbs” to dispel the tether.
  • Grey Arbiter (Phase 3): At 29% HP, the boss will summon another arbiter. This arbiter will only use “Thunderbolt.” Kill the mob as soon as possible.
