Smack Down is a Physical Rock-type move that’s designed as a counter for Flying-type Pokémon.
Not only are Rock-type attacks super effective versus Flying Pokémon, but Smack Down will also land against any target in a semi-invulnerable turn (such as Fly or Sky Drop).
Tip: If Smack Down is used against a Pokémon using Fly or Bounce, the move will be canceled and the target will be grounded. Grounding a Flying-type Pokémon will allow them to be hit by Ground-type moves.
Because Smack Down is such a situational move, it really isn’t viable as a mainstay in any of your Pokémon’s moveset. The attack is also held back by its pitiful 50 base Power, so generally it’s not really worth using unless you have a specific strategy in mind.
