Sludge Wave is a strong Special attack – its 95 base Power ranks high among Poison-type moves, and it also has a 10% chance of poisoning the target.
While Sludge Wave is a great option for your Poison Pokémon, it is often picked over for the move Sludge Bomb.
While its attack is a bit lower at 90 base Power, Sludge Bomb has a staggering 30% chance of poisoning its target.
Because of this powerful secondary effect, you may want to prioritize teaching your Pokémon Sludge Bomb instead.
Sludge Wave is much more powerful in Double and Triple battles, as its splash damage will affect every Pokémon on the field. Keep in mind that this includes your ally, so be sure to only use it alongside Pokémon immune to Poison attacks (such as a Steel type).
Pokémon To Teach Sludge Wave
There aren’t any Pokémon that learn Sludge Wave via level-up in Black/White, so grabbing TM34 can be a great investment of your BP.
And since Sludge Wave is a Special move, you’ll want to teach it to Pokémon with a strong Special Attack Stat.
Serviper is the only Poison-type with strong Special Attack that can learn Sludge Wave and is easily the best fit for the move.
The legendary trio Landorus, Thundurus, and Tornadus all sport fantastic Special Attack and are eligible to be taught Sludge Wave as well.
