How To Get TM50 Overheat in Pokémon Black & White

TM50's location on Route 11 in Pokémon Black

TM50 Overheat is located at the top of a waterfall in the northern part of Route 11. You can reach Route 11 by exiting Opelucid City to the east.

But to reach TM50’s location you’ll also need to have HM03 Surf and HM05 Waterfall.

And before you can get to Opelucid City, you’ll need to defeat Icirrus City’s Gym Leader Brycen.

As for the move itself: Overheat is a powerful Fire-type attack that deals damage at 140 base Power. The move does come with a drawback, as the user’s Special Attack is reduced by two stages each use.

Overheat Move Details
Type Fire
Category Special
Power 140
Accuracy 90
PP 5

Overheat is one of the most powerful Fire-type moves in the game, dealing 140 base Power alongside a solid 90% Accuracy rating.

The attack does come with serious downside though:

Each time you use the move, it lowers the user’s Special Attack by two stages.

Because Overheat is a Special move, this effect directly impacts consecutive uses of the attack in battle.

Here’s a table showing how each stage modifies a Pokémon’s Special Attack stat:

Stage Stat modifier
-1 x0.66
-2 x0.5
-3 x0.4
-4 x0.33
-5 x0.285
-6 x0.25

After just one use of Overheat, the Pokémon’s Special Attack stat is decreased by 50%.

To negate this drop-off, you could give your Pokémon a Choice Specs to hold. This item allows the user to boost one move’s Special Attack by 50%, and will give you two uses of a fully-powered Overheat.

This just leaves the question of who to teach it to.

There are plenty of Fire-types with great Special Attack that can dominate with Overheat in Black & White.

Chandelure, Darmanitan, and Volcarona are all great choices for teaching TM50.
