TM53 Energy Ball is located in the center of the meadow on Route 12. You can reach Route 12 by going directly west of Lacunosa Town.
But before you’re able to reach Lacunosa Town and Route 12, you’ll first need to complete the main story of Black/White and get to the post-game.
So after Team Plasma and the Elite Four have been defeated, you’ll be able to grab the TM.
TM53 Energy Ball Location (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Starting at the Lacunosa City Pokémon Center, head west on the city’s main road.
Step 2: Continue west through the city, passing the homes with furniture on their roofs.
Step 3: Lacunosa’s west exit leads directly to Route 12. Keep west on the route once you reach Route 12.
Step 4: Continue trekking west on Route 12, passing by the trainers and patches of tall grass.
Step 5: Up ahead should be a Trainer Tips sign.
From that signpost, turn north and walk up towards the meadow.
Step 6: TM53 Energy Ball will be found in a Poké Ball on the ground in the meadow straight ahead.
TM53 Energy Ball Details + Uses

Type | Grass |
Category | Special |
Power | 80 |
Accuracy | 100 |
PP | 10 |
Energy Ball is a dependable Grass-type attack that you can teach to many different types of Pokémon. Its base Power of 80 and perfect Accuracy have great use in most battles – although it is a bit unfortunate that you can only get this TM in the post-game.
As a secondary effect, Energy Ball also has a 10% chance of lowering its target’s Special Defense by one stage.
Special Defense, like other stats, can be lowered for a total of 6 stages.
Here’s a look at how Special Defense is affected by stage:
Stage | Stat modifier |
---|---|
-1 | x0.66 |
-2 | x0.5 |
-3 | x0.4 |
-4 | x0.33 |
-5 | x0.285 |
-6 | x0.25 |
As a Special move, Energy Ball really thrives in the hands of a strong Special Attacker.
Grass-types scarcely fit in this category, but there are a few that have strong stats, such as:
- Maractus
- Roserade
- Cacturne
And as mentioned above, Energy Ball can be learned by many different types of Pokémon in Black/White. So don’t hesitate to use TM53 on your best non-Grass-types as well.
Chandelure, Alakazam, and Gengar can all do great damage with Energy Ball.
