TM86 Grass Knot is located on the ground in the western half of Pinwheel Forest. This is the forest directly west of Nacrene City.
To reach the Grass Knot TM you’ll need to navigate through the forest’s hollowed-out trees which serve as bridges.
As for the move itself: Grass Knot is a unique Grass-type attack that deals damage dependent on the target’s weight. The heavier the target, the more powerful Grass Knot becomes.
TM86 Grass Knot Location (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Head north from the Nacrene City Pokémon Center towards the city’s main road (right behind the Pokécenter).
Step 2: Head west on the main road towards the city’s exit.
Step 3: Continue west through the city, passing the outdoor patio.
Step 4: Eventually you’ll need to turn and go north along this road – but make that turn and then keep walking west past the NPC.
Step 5: Enter Pinwheel Forest at the end of the road.
Step 6: After entering Pinwheel Forest, head northwest and walk in-between the gap in the white picket fence.
Step 7: Continue west past the twin trainers, then veer southwest past the large tree stump.
Step 8: Continue west across the forest, walking through the patches of tall grass.
Step 9: Keep following the path through the forest leading west.
Step 10: Once the path ends west, turn and head north.
Step 11: Just ahead is a hollowed-out tree trunk. Walk through the trunk to reach the other side of the forest.
Step 12: Continue north and you’ll walk directly under a large fallen tree trunk, then turn west to follow the path through some grass.
Step 13: Eventually you’ll need to veer south, then you’ll need to climb up a fallen tree trunk like a ramp (pictured below).
Step 14: The ramp leads to a raised platform.
Once you’re on the raised platform, head down the other ramp ahead of you which leads onto the forest floor.
Step 15: Walk east from the bottom of the ramp.
Step 16: Head southeast through the forest, passing by the hollow tree trunk.
Then climb down the small staircase you’ll see down a southern path (pictured below).
Step 17: Continue down the next set of bigger stairs as well, moving towards the body of water.
From here, take the stairs directly north of the water.
Step 18: TM86 Grass Knot is located in a Poké Ball on the ground at the top of these stairs.

Grass Knot Damage | |

110.1 – 220.2 | 80 |
220.3 – 440.7 | 100 |
440.8 + | 120 |
If used against the right opponent, Grass Knot has one of the greatest base Power moves in Pokémon Black/White.
The move is very situational however, and it doesn’t have much use in competitive play.
But it can be a fun move to use as you progress through your journey to become Pokémon Champion in the mainline story. It’s especially useful against the several heavy legendary Pokémon you’ll come across.
