Pluck is a Physical Flying-type attack that deals meager damage at 60 base Power. And it has a small added effect:
If your opponent is holding a berry, Pluck will steal the berry and your Pokémon will consume it.
Because this move’s Power level is so low, Pluck is never used in competitive play.
And by the time you’re able to obtain TM88 in your single-player journey, you’ll have learned much better moves for your Flying-type Pokémon.
So generally speaking, this is one of the lesser-used TMs in the game.
If you’re looking to stock up on berries by stealing them from wild Pokémon, Thief is a much better move. Instead of consuming the berry, Thief will add it to your Bag.
Thief can also be used with an ability like Frisk, which helps detect a wild Pokémon’s held item. And unlike Thief, there aren’t any Pokémon abilities that improve Pluck’s berry stealing effect.
