How To Get the Squirtbottle in Pokémon Crystal

Next to the tree where you need the Squirtbottle in Pokémon Crystal

You get the Squirtbottle from a florist inside the Flower Shop in Goldenrod City. The Flower shop is located directly to the right of the Gym.

But you’ll need to first defeat Gym Leader Whitney in battle, try to leave the gym, then turn around to speak with her again to get the Goldenrod Gym Badge. And as another prerequisite, you’ll also need to go speak with the florist’s sister on Route 36 as well.

The Squirtbottle is one of the more confusing key items to get because it has so many required steps that aren’t very clear in-game. But we’ll cover the entire process in this step-by-step guide.

As for its uses, this odd bottle is a Key Item used to unblock the path to Ecruteak City by spraying the strange dancing tree (a Sudowoodo) on Route 36.

Squirtbottle Location (Step-by-Step)

Before going to the Flower Shop in Goldenrod, you first need to look for the florist’s sister on Route 36.

The fastest way to Route 36 is by taking the northern exit out of Goldenrod City, then heading east through the grassy path before entering the National Park.

Note: It can be a bit easier to beat Whitney and win your Plain Badge first before going to find the florist’s sister.

Here’s a full step-by-step guide on finding the florist’s sister and getting your Squirtbottle.

Step 1: Leave Goldenrod City through the north exit to arrive on Route 35. Then keep going north until you see the gate that leads to the National Park.

Route 35 has several Pokémon trainers, so stock up on healing items before crossing it.

Step 2: You will see the gates to the National Park and a grassy path to the right.

Turn right and follow that grassy path until you find a tree you can use Cut on.

Step 3: Cut the tree out of the way and go north a few steps to arrive on Route 36.

You can also get to Route 36 by crossing through the National Park, but that can take a bit more time.

Step 4: After getting to Route 36, just follow the path going to the right and you’ll soon find Floria, the florist’s sister. She will be standing near the Sudowoodo tree.

Talk to her and she will head back to the Flower Shop in Goldenrod City.

Step 5: Head back to Goldenrod City and enter the Flower Shop.

You’ll see the Flower Shop as a small house next to the Gym. And you need to have Whitney’s badge before talking to the florist, so be sure to clear the Goldenrod Gym first.

Step 6: Inside the Flower Shop, talk to Floria again. She will mention defeating Gym Leader Whitney and obtaining her badge. If you have the badge, this dialogue will appear.

Using the Squirtbottle

With the Squirtbottle in your bag, go back to the wriggling tree-like Pokémon blocking the intersection on Route 36.

A level 20 Sudowoodo will attack when you interact and use your Squirtbottle on it.

Tip: If you want to capture Sudowoodo, save the game before interacting with it. This is the only Sudowoodo in-game, so there are no other chances to get one other than trading.

Sudowoodo is a slow Rock-type Pokémon with good Attack and Defense stats. However, it is less resistant to Special moves such as Water Gun, Mud-Slap, and Bubblebeam.

It’s a fairly easy opponent, but watch out for Sudowoodo’s Rock Throw. Although the move only has a base Attack Power of 50, the +50% same-type damage bonus makes it a bit stronger.

Tip: If you want to capture Sudowoodo, be careful when using strong Water Pokémon — Sudowoodo’s Special Defense is not very good, and you could 1-Hit-KO it accidentally.

After defeating/capturing the Sudowoodo, the intersection will be unblocked.

To your left is Route 37 and Ecruteak City; to your right is a path that allows you to revisit Violet City.
