1 | Victory Road. Drop down a hole directly left of the northern exit to find the TM on the ground. | No |
There is only one location where you can get TM26 Earthquake in Pokémon Crystal: you have to go to Victory Road’s third floor (3F) and jump down a hole in the ground to reach a specific area on the second floor where the TM is located.
It’s typically faster to do this by flying to Indigo Plateau and entering Victory Road from that direction.
The best time to get this TM is right after clearing Victory Road for the first time, although you could also do it on your first run through the cavern.
Note: This is the only way to get TM26 Earthquake in the game, so this will be your only copy of the TM unless you can trade more from another game.
Getting TM26 Earthquake (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Enter Victory Road from Route 23 (Indigo Plateau Entrance).
You can Fly here after the first time you visit the Indigo Plateau, but you need to be in Kanto to get the option to fly here.
Tip: If you’re in Johto and need to quickly get to Kanto, fly to New Bark Town and cross over to Route 27 by using Surf east of New Bark Town. You can even use Fly without leaving the water.
Step 2: Once you’re in Victory Road, head south and then turn west at the first opportunity.
Keep going west and look for a dark tile on the ground. It’s a hole leading down to the second floor. Jump in when you find it!
Step 3: After you fall through the hole, walk a few paces right from where you landed to find TM26 Earthquake on the ground.

Power | 100 |
Accuracy | 100% |
PP | 10 (max. 16) |
Earthquake is the most powerful Ground-type move in Pokémon Crystal, hands down.
Not only does it have the highest base Power out of any Ground-type move, but it boasts perfect accuracy, and 10PP isn’t half bad.
As an added bonus, it can hit Pokémon during Dig, dealing double damage. It’s devastating.
Due to Ground’s type advantages, you’ll want to use this move against any Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire, or Electric-type Pokémon.
It can be a game changer against:
- Gym Leader Lt. Surge (Vermillion City) and his Electric-type Pokémon.
- Elite Four Koga and his Poison-type Pokémon.
- Elite Four Will’s Jynx.
Who To Teach Earthquake To
If you want Earthquake to reach its highest potential, teach it to a Ground-type Pokémon with a high Attack stat. Rhydon and Nidoking are two great options.
But here’s a list of some of the best candidates in Pokémon Crystal:
Pokémon | Type | Location |
---|---|---|
Nidoking | Poison/Ground | Evolve Nidorino. |
Nidoqueen | Poison/Ground | Evolve Nidorina. |
Rhydon | Ground | Victory Road (Morning, Day) |
Golem | Ground | Evolve Graveler. |
Donphan | Ground | Route 45 (Morning, Day). Evolve Phanpy. |
