To get the Amulet Coin you need to catch (or evolve) 40 unique Pokémon species, and then talk to Professor Oak’s Aide on Route 16.
You will also need the Pokéflute to get the Amulet Coin, because Professor Oak’s Aide is in the yellow building on Route 16, which is blocked by a sleeping Snorlax.
Amulet Coin Prerequisites

- Get the Silph Scope from Rocket Hideout in Celadon City
- Clear the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town and get the Pokéflute
- Catch 40 different Pokémon species
Once you’ve caught 40 Pokémon you can head to Route 16 to get the Amulet Coin from professor Oak’s Assistant.
To get to that assistant though, you’ll need to move a Snorlax, which is where the Pokéflute comes into play.
Amulet Coin Location (Step-by-Step)
The first thing you need to do is make your way to Celadon City.
If you don’t know how to get to Celadon, you simply need to take the underground path located far west of Lavender Town.

Step 1: Once you’re in Celadon City, head onto Route 16, which is just to the left of Celadon.
You’ll see a big Snorlax sleeping on Route 16, blocking the building that lets you cross to Cycling Road. Professor Oak’s assistant and the Amulet Coin are in this building, which means it’s time to ruin that Snorlax’s slumber.

Step 2: Interact with Snorlax after you’ve obtained the Pokéflute. It will ask if you’d like to wake up Snorlax. You need to say “yes” and defeat/catch Snorlax so you can enter the building.
After you’ve cleared the Snorlax, just walk inside the yellow building.

Step 3: There will be stairs right below you, in the bottom-right corner of the building. Walk upstairs and talk to the man in the lab coat. This is one of Oak’s Aides.

Step 4: Oak’s Aide will check if you’ve caught 40 unique Pokémon, and if you have, then he’ll award you with the Amulet Coin.
How Does The Amulet Coin Work?

The Amulet Coin doubles the prize money you win from battles as long as it’s equipped to a Pokémon that participated in the battle.
Generally the Amulet Coin pairs very well with the VS. Seeker, since that allows you to battle many trainers over and over again, while getting twice the payout of normal battles.
