In Pokémon LeafGreen, King’s Rocks can be obtained as held items from wild Slowpokes in Sevault Canyon on Seven Island. Slowpoke cannot be found in FireRed, so this method is not an option in that game.
But a King’s Rock is also one of the prizes for completing the Mixed Challenge in the Trainer Tower on Seven Island, so that can work in FireRed if needed. However this method is not repeatable – so the only way to get multiple King’s Rocks is to take them as held items from wild Slowpokes.
Whichever method you choose for your King’s Rock, you’ll need to be able to make it to Seven Island. This means you’ll need the Tri Pass that you get from defeating Blaine.
Method 1: Sevault Canyon Slowpokes
If you have Pokémon LeafGreen, then you can get the King’s Rock from wild Slowpokes in Sevault Canyon.
Simply catch a Slowpoke, and if you’re lucky it will be holding the King’s Rock.
This will not work in FireRed because FireRed doesn’t have wild Slowpokes. So if you have FireRed, you’ll need to win the King’s Rock from the Trainer Tower.
How To Reach Sevault Canyon
Step 1: Head to Seven Island (Use the Tri Pass at the Vermilion City Harbor after defeating Blaine).
Step 2: Walk South until you reach a bridge.
Step 3: Cross the bridge into Canyon Entrance.
Step 4: Continue on the Route, which will lead south-east until you reach the Route changes to Sevault Canyon.
There are no entrances to walk through to reach Sevault Canyon, the route will just transition from Canyon Entrance to Sevault Canyon once you enter it.
Once you’re in, just check the grass for Slowpoke.
I recommend keeping as many party positions open as possible – that way you don’t need to use the Pokémon Center computer to check if the Slowpokes you catch have a King’s Rock as a held item.
Method 2: Trainer Tower
If you have Pokémon FireRed (or if you just don’t want to catch a bunch of Slowpoke) then you can get the King’s Rock as a prize in Trainer Tower.
This method can work in both FRLG games.
Reaching Trainer Tower
Step 1: Head to Seven Island with the Tri Pass (Must defeat Blaine first).
Step 2: Walk north until you reach the beach (requires beating two trainers).
Step 3: Surf straight north until you reach an island with stairs leading up to a giant building (Trainer Tower).
Beating Trainer Tower & Getting a King’s Rock
Once you’re in Trainer Tower, you can just walk forward.
A lady will stop you and ask if you’d like to compete in Singles, Double, Knockout, or Mixed. Choose Mixed.
You want to choose “Mixed” because each mode has its own prize, and the prize for Mixed battles is the King’s Rock. Mixed means that you will compete in Single and Double battles.
After you choose, you can walk up the stairs and start battling.
You will need to defeat 8 floors worth of trainers in a row, all with Pokémon that are the same level as your highest level Pokémon.
So get ready, because it is not easy.
Every time that you enter a new floor, you just need to walk forward until the trainer on that floor challenges you. After you defeat them, head up the stairs to the next trainer.
After you make it to the top of the Trainer Tower, you will see the owner standing there taking in the wind.
Simply talk to him and he will give you your prize, the King’s Rock.
If you want to battle the Trainer Tower again for a different prize, you can leave the Tower and walk back in.
However, just note that you can only win one of each prize. So you will not be able to get a second King’s Rock by beating the Mixed mode again.
