Where To Get the Old Amber in Pokémon FRLG

In the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island (Pokémon FireRed)

You’ll get the Old Amber by talking to the Scientist NPC inside a small building attached to the right side of the Museum of Science in Pewter City. But this building is blocked by a small tree, so you can only get into the building by using HM01 Cut.

The Old Amber is on a pedestal inside this building, and the Scientist is standing just to the left of it.

After obtaining the Old Amber, it can be taken to the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island to be cloned into an Aerodactyl.

Prerequisites

The Old Amber can be obtained pretty early in the game if you’re willing to backtrack. But it can’t be turned into an Aerodactyl until a bit later in your playthrough.

To just get the Old Amber you just need to:

  • Be able to reach Pewter City
  • Have HM01 Cut & the Cascade Badge to use it outside of battle

You’ll need to cut down a Tree in Pewter City, so make you have a Pokémon that knows Cut in your party too.

Getting the Old Amber

To get the Old Amber, head to Pewter City and make your way to the north side of town.

There you will see the Museum of Science, which is a pretty large building that’s hard to miss.

There’s a tiny add-on building to the right of the main Museum building.

This building is where the Old Amber is waiting for us.

To get to that building, you need to walk east from the entrance of the Museum and make your way around the little hill.

Here you will see a small Tree that can be cut down with HM01 Cut.

Cut the tree down and then make your way into the little building attached to the right side of the Museum.

Once inside, you will see the Old Amber sitting on a pedestal right next to a Scientist. Walk up and talk to that Scientist.

He’ll tell you that they believe the Amber has Pokémon DNA inside of it, and then he gives you the Amber so that you can have it examined later.

Once they’re finished talking, the Old Amber will be placed in your Bag and you’re good to go.

What Do You Do with the Old Amber?

Once you have the Old Amber, you can actually have it cloned into the Pokémon Aerodactyl.

To do that you’ll need to gain access to Cinnabar Island. Once you’re there, head to the southwest side of the Island. You’ll find a Pokémon Lab here (the ovular-shaped building).

If you head into the Pokémon Lab and walk to the right down the hallway, you’ll want to go all the way to the very end and enter the last room (the Testing Room).

Once inside, head to the northeast corner of the room where the fossil machine and a Professor are waiting.

Talk to the Professor and hand over the Old Amber.

After you give them the Old Amber, they’ll tell you to come back later.

Simply walk out of the building one step, and then walk back inside and head to the professor. You’ll then be able to retrieve your Aerodactyl.

A jack of all trades when it comes to gaming. I can sit down for hours in a casual playthrough of Pokémon, or I can spend months trying to hit Diamond in League of Legends. I love and appreciate everything about games, and love sharing that passion with my readers.
