How To Get the Running Shoes in Pokémon FRLG

Running through Route 3 with the Running Shoes (FireRed)

You’ll get the Running Shoes by walking towards Route 3 after defeating Brock in the Pewter City Gym. One of Professor Oak’s Aides will be waiting for you at the beginning of Route 3, and they will give you the Running Shoes before you leave the city.

Note that you will have to beat Brock and get your Boulder Badge first before you can acquire the Running Shoes.

Prerequisites

The Running Shoes key item are obtained as part of the main story, so you don’t have to go out of your way or do anything special. There are just a couple of things you need to do before getting them though:

  • Deliver the Parcel to Professor Oak
  • Walk through Viridian Forest to Pewter City
  • Defeat Brock in the Pewter City Gym

The major prerequisite here is defeating Brock, which you need to do before moving on anyways.

But after that, you’ll be able to run anywhere your heart desires!

Getting the Running Shoes

Assuming you’ve made it through Viridian Forest, the first step to getting the Running Shoes is defeating Brock.

Once Brock is defeated, head to the east side of Pewter City, where the entrance to Route 3 is located.

There will be an NPC in a lab coat at the beginning of the Route. Simply talk to them or attempt to walk by them and they’ll stop you and give you the Running Shoes.

If you try to go on Route 3 before defeating Brock, a completely different NPC will be waiting on Route 3 and they won’t let you pass or give you a present.

Once you have the Running Shoes, you can immediately press and hold B to start running anywhere you go.

A jack of all trades when it comes to gaming. I can sit down for hours in a casual playthrough of Pokémon, or I can spend months trying to hit Diamond in League of Legends. I love and appreciate everything about games, and love sharing that passion with my readers.
