Calm Mind is a Status move that increases the user’s Special Attack and Special Defense stat by one stage. This attack can seriously boost your Pokémon’s stats, especially if used more than once.

So while this is a very rare TM that you can only get 1 copy of, it is a move that can be worth using (with the right strategy).

The chart below displays how Special Attack and Special Defense are increased by each stage:

Stage Stat Modifier
1 Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense 1.5x
2 Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense 2x
3 Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense 2.5x
4 Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense 3x
5 Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense 3.5x
6 Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense 4x

Who To Teach Calm Mind To

You’ll want to use Calm Mind on a Pokémon with already strong Special Attack and Defense stats, that also features a Special-type moveset.

In Gen 3 there are specific typings that categorize as Special moves. These typings are:

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Electric
  • Grass
  • Ice
  • Psychic
  • Dragon
  • Dark

Pokémon that could benefit greatly from learning Calm Mind include solid Special defenders such as Chansey, Clefable, and Hypno. Another great option is Slowbro, who has balanced stats across the board.
