You’ll get TM29 Psychic for free as a gift from Mr. Psychic. He can be found in his home located in the southeastern corner of Saffron City.

And this TM has no prerequisites beyond gaining access to Saffron City. So you can pick up the TM as soon as you get the Tea which allows you to pass through gate connectors to reach Saffron.

TM29 Psychic Location (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Starting at the Saffron City Pokémon Center, head east down the street.

Step 2: Continue east until you come across a house with a silver mailbox. This is Mr. Psychic’s house.

Step 3: Upon entering this house, you’ll find Mr. Psychic seated at the table.

Step 4: After a brief conversation with Mr. Psychic, he’ll give you the TM for Psychic with no strings attached.

Psychic is a Special attack that should be a part of any Psychic-type Pokémon’s moveset.

Along with perfect Accuracy, Psychic also inflicts heavy damage at 90 base Power.

But it gets better:

Further improving its potential fire power, Psychic also has a 33% chance of lowering its target’s Special Defense by one stage. Below is a chart that displays how Special Defense is lowered per stage:

Put simply: Psychic is easily one of the best moves you can learn via TM in FireRed & LeafGreen.

That said, Psychic can be learned via level-up by many Psychic-type Pokémon. So don’t hesitate to teach TM29 to a non-Psychic-type with a strong Special Attack stat.

Gengar, Exeggutor, and Electabuzz can all make great use of the move – but really it should perform well on almost any Pokémon you teach it to.

Just note that this is the only copy of TM29 in the game. So make sure you definitely want to teach it to whoever you use the TM on.
