TM41 Torment is located within Silph Co. Headquarters in Saffron City. The TM is within a Poké Ball in the southeast room of the 4th floor of the building.
But before you’re able to enter Silph Co., you’ll need your Rainbow Badge from the Gym in Celadon City. You’ll also need to clear out Team Rocket from the Celadon City Game Corner.
TM41 Torment Location (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Once you’re able to access Silph Co. just head northwest from the Saffron City Pokémon Center.
Step 2: Then turn and head east on the road directly above the Pokémon Center.
Step 3: Up ahead is the Silph Co. Headquarters (it has sliding double glass doors at the front). Enter the building once you see it.
Step 4: After entering the headquarters, head north across the main floor.
Step 5: Turn east once you’ve passed the service desk and enter the elevator in the top-right corner of the first floor.
Step 6: Take the elevator to the 4th floor.
Step 7: Now on the 4th floor, head southeast and walk through the open doorway ahead.
Step 8: After passing through the doorway, continue south past the tables.
Step 9: TM41 Torment will be found in a Poké Ball on the south-most table in this room.
TM41 Torment Details + Uses
|Torment Move Details|
Torment is a Dark-type Status move that is commonly used in competitive play due to its ability to counter the Choice item strategy.
Choice items, when held by a Pokémon, provide a stat boost that varies depending on the item.
But after the boost is in-effect, the user is locked-in to using only one move for the duration of that battle.
Because Torment disallows two consecutive uses of the same move, any target holding a Choice item is forced to alternate between their one move and Struggle.
The downside to Torment is that the move doesn’t follow its target. So once the target Pokémon is switched out of battle, it is no longer affected by the move lock-in.
That being said, forcing your opponent to switch in the middle of battle almost always guarantees a free turn. So it can be a reasonable move to use in competitive play – but for a general playthrough of FireRed or LeafGreen, you might consider just selling the Torment TM rather than teaching it to anyone in your party.
