Pokémon HGSS Daisy Oak’s Massages (What They Do + Effects)

Outside Blue's House in Pallet Town in Pokémon HeartGold

Daisy Oak is Blue’s older sister, and Professor Oak’s granddaughter. She can be found in Blue’s house in Pallet Town when you gain access to the Kanto region after defeating the Elite Four.

If you visit Daisy between 3PM and 4PM each day, she will massage one of your Pokémon. She will only give one massage per day.

Each massage will increase a Pokémon’s happiness level by +10.

But if you manually alter your DS clock to the 3PM-4PM timeframe, then the game can detect this, and Daisy will not massage your Pokémon. One workaround is to jump ahead to 11:59PM and let the clock naturally roll over to the next day, and then adjusting the clock should work. More details can be found here.

Tip: After you’ve had Daisy massage your Pokémon at least 7 times, show her a Pokémon with a maxed out happiness level in the first slot of your party. Then she will give you Blue’s Pokégear number, and you can call him for rematches on Sunday nights.

What is Happiness?

A Pokémon’s happiness (or friendship, as it’s sometimes referred to) is a mechanic in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver that determines the level of contentment a Pokémon is feeling towards its Trainer.

All Pokémon have a happiness level, which can be increased or decreased depending on the actions of the Trainer, and the mechanic is mostly known for triggering the evolution of several Pokémon species when the value reaches 220 or more.

Note: Happiness is a relatively hidden mechanic, but there is a lady in Goldenrod City that can check any Pokémon’s happiness level for you.

What Else Do Massages Affect?

Daisy Oak’s massages, while increasing a Pokémon’s happiness, also increases their:

  • Beauty by +32
  • Sheen by +22

In the HeartGold & SoulSilver games, a Pokémon’s beauty and sheen are hidden, and can only be viewed when they are traded to Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum.

Nevertheless, a Feebas who levels up with its beauty maxed out in HeartGold and SoulSilver will begin to evolve into Milotic.
