In HeartGold & SoulSilver, you get the Super Rod by talking to the Silence Bridge Fishing Guru in his house on Route 12, located south of Lavender Town.
This means you’ll need to have beaten Johto’s Elite Four and explored some of Kanto first.
But once you’ve done all that, getting your Super Rod is easy and free. The Super Rod will allow you to catch rarer, higher-level Pokémon while fishing vs. the Old Rod or Good Rod.
Getting the Super Rod (Step-by-Step)
Here’s a step-by-step guide of where you need to go:
First, fly to Lavender Town and take the south exit from town. This leads onto the boardwalks of Route 12.
Carry on going south down the boardwalks. If you haven’t explored this area before, there will be plenty of trainers to battle as you go.
Keep going until south you get to this house.
This is the home of the Silence Bridge Fishing Guru.
Go inside and talk to the fisherman to receive your Super Rod.
