Where To Get TM04 Calm Mind in Pokémon HGSS

Fronteir Access Area with a Lunatone (HeartGold)

TM04 Calm Mind is one of the many TMs that can only be acquired at the Battle Frontier, where it can be purchased using Battle Points (BP). It costs 48 BP, and you can get it repeatedly as long as you have enough BP for more copies.

Finding TM04 Calm Mind

The Battle Frontier is located to the left side of Olivine City.

If you have not gone to the Battle Frontier before, you can get there by taking Olivine City’s west exit. Just go left past Olivine City’s Pokémon Center and keep walking.

This will lead you to Route 40.

Once you’re on the route, enter the gate in the upper left.

If you have already beaten the Pokémon League, the NPC managing the gate will not block your way. So you can proceed through the gate and you should find yourself in the Frontier Access area.

Continue heading north through the Frontier Access area until you come across a sheltered entrance – head inside.

This will take you into the Battle Frontier gate which has several NPCs behind two counters on the sides of the entrance hall.

From here, keep walking forward and leave through the opposite end of the entrance hall. This will bring you to the actual Battle Frontier grounds.

You will see a set of stalls not far from the entrance.

These stalls carry different kinds of items that you can get with Battle Points.

Calm Mind is a Psychic-type Status move that raises both the Special Attack and Special Defense of the user by 1 stage.

Its effects can be stacked with multiple uses, or with other stat-boosting moves.

Calm Mind is recommended for Pokémon with good Special Attack and defenses (either Defense or Special Defense is fine).

This is because Calm Mind’s dual boosts will be able to improve both the strength of the Pokémon’s special moves, and their bulk.

Here’s a quick list of Pokémon we recommend teaching Calm Mind to:

  • Slowbro
  • Spiritomb
  • Clefable
  • Jynx
  • Espeon
  • Mismagius
  • Gardevoir

Pokémon with high Special Attack tend to also have a good Special Defense stat, so Calm Mind will be able to bolster their strong areas further.

Calm Mind would work even better for Pokémon that have a combination of good Defense and Special Attack, since the Special Defense boost will fill out their bulk. Unfortunately, this is pretty uncommon.

As a result, many Calm Mind users will still have an obvious weakness to physical attacks.
