Where To Get TM16 Light Screen in Pokémon HGSS

TM16 Light Screen is one of the TMs that’s only available for sale at the 5th floor of the Goldenrod Department Store. It costs 2,000 Pokédollars, and you can get multiple copies as long as you have enough money to buy them.

TM16 Light Screen Location

The Goldenrod Department Store is located to the right of Goldenrod City’s Pokémon Center, just across the street.

Head inside the Goldenrod Department Store. Then take the escalators or the elevator to the 5th floor (5F).

  • If you’re taking the elevator, simply talk to the NPC attendant and select “5F” from the menu.
  • If you will be using the escalators, take the upward escalators on each floor until you see a green sign with a number 5 beside the floor’s elevator entrance.

You should see a single counter directly to the right of the escalators and the elevator exit.

Speak to the NPC behind the counter to bring up the menu for the TMs they have available for sale.

The TM for Light Screen will not be shown by name. It will be displayed as “TM16” and it costs 2,000 Pokédollars.

Light Screen is a Psychic-type status move that halves all Special attack damage sustained by the user’s team. In a Double Battle, Special Attack damage will be reduced by a third instead.

The effect lasts for 5 turns. If the Light Screen user is holding Light Clay, it will last longer for 8 turns.

Key Takeaways:

  • Defog & Brick Break cancel the effect. If anyone in a Double Battle uses Defog or Brick Break on the user’s team, Light Screen’s effect will be removed.
  • Light Screen + Reflect work great together. Light Screen can be good on its own. But it is best used in tandem with Reflect since both oncoming Physical and Special damage can be reduced that way. That means that it is usually better for a Light Screen user to also know Reflect.
  • Ghost-types work great with Light Screen. Ghost-type Pokémon can make for good users of Light Screen since they will be immune to Brick Break. This can prevent Light Screen from getting destroyed.

The best Light Screen setters also have good Defense and Special Defense. This will help ensure that they will be able to withstand attacks for long enough to set up Light Screen (and Reflect).

However, a fast Pokémon with poor Special Defense but good Defense can also use Light Screen well. It may be able to outspeed the opponent and use Light Screen to improve their survivability to strong Special attacks.
