Where To Get TM31 Brick Break in Pokémon HGSS

Frontier Access Area with a Snorlax in Pokémon HeartGold

TM31 Brick Break is one of the TMs available at the Battle Frontier that can be exchanged for Battle Points (BP). It costs 40 BP, and this is the only location in the game where you can get the TM.

But before you can access this area you’ll need to beat the Elite Four at least once.

Finding TM31 Brick Break

The Battle Frontier is located to the left of Olivine City.

If you’ve never been to the Battle Frontier before, you can get there by taking Olivine City’s western exit. Just go west past Olivine City’s Pokémon Center, which leads onto Route 40.

Once you’re on Route 40, keep going west and then enter the gate to the upper left of the route.

If you have already beated the Pokémon League, the NPC managing the gate will not block your way.

Proceed through the gate and you should find yourself in the Frontier Access area.

From here, continue heading north through the Frontier Access area until you come across a sheltered entrance.

Go inside, and this will take you into the Battle Frontier gate, which has several NPCs behind two counters on the sides of the entrance hall.

But keep walking forward and leave through the opposite end of the entrance hall. This will take you to the actual Battle Frontier grounds.

Here, you will see a set of stalls not far from the entrance.

These stalls carry different kinds of items that you can get with Battle Points.

Using Brick Break

Brick Break Move Details
Type Fighting
Category Physical
Power 75
Accuracy 100
PP 15

Brick Break is a physical Fighting-type attack move with 75 base power. It also destroys the opponent’s Reflect and Light Screen barriers.

Note: Brick Break will destroy barriers even when used against a Ghost-type Pokémon, but it will fail against Protect or if it misses.

There are many physical Fighting-type moves like Brick Break, so it faces stiff competition.

High Jump Kick, Close Combat, and Superpower are all way stronger than Brick Break since they have 100+ base power.

Drain Punch is just as strong as Brick Break but it provides healing instead. This effect will always be useful in contrast to the situational barrier-breaking effect of Brick Break.

Brick Break is thus an unpopular choice for a Pokémon that can also learn any of the above moves.

But if your team struggles with teams that use Reflect or Light Screen, or if Brick Break is the only physical Fighting-type move that a Pokémon can learn, you will find a lot of use for it.

We can recommend the following Pokémon to teach Brick Break to:

  • Heracross
  • Weavile
  • Electivire
  • Snorlax
  • Toxicroak
  • Dusknoir
  • Floatzel
