3 | Sea Mauville — Inside the northwest cabin, after getting the Key to Room 1 | No |
The most reliable way to obtain Dive Balls is by purchasing them from the Fallarbor Poké Mart for 1000 Pokédollars each.
But if you’re looking to save some money, you can also obtain Dive Balls by defeating Sailor Ernest in a rematch on Route 125. Rematches can be initiated through the Trainer’s Eye function on the PokéNav Plus. But the chances of receiving a Dive Ball as a reward for defeating him is only 20%.
Or you can pick up one free Dive Ball in Room 1 of Sea Mauville. However, you’re going to need the Key to Room 1 to access that particular cabin.
Method #1: Fallarbor Town Poké Mart
Fallarbor Town is a small town located in northwest Hoenn.
The Fallarbor Poké Mart is where you can purchase Dive Balls for 1000 Pokédollars each. Simply speak to the top clerk to buy Dive Balls, as well as other special Poké Balls such as Dusk Balls and Quick Balls, all for the same price.
Note that no other Marts in the game will sell these special balls, only Fallarbor Town’s Mart.
Method #2: Rematch with Sailor Ernest
The AreaNav is a feature of the PokéNav Plus, which displays the map of the Hoenn Region.
Upon selecting the map, you will see various tabs, including the Trainer’s Eye tab.
This tab allows you to locate specific trainers across Hoenn who are ready for a rematch, indicated by a “Battle Ready” sign next to their profile.
When you defeat rematchable trainers, you have a small chance of obtaining an item as a reward. When you defeat Sailor Ernest, he has a 20% chance of giving you one Dive Ball.
To reach Sailor Ernest, who is located on an island towards the right side of Route 125, you’ll need a Pokémon that knows HM03 Surf.
Once you find him, just initiate the rematch by speaking to him.
You can check the Trainer’s Eye tab on Route 125 to see if he’s up for a rematch. If he is, fly over to Route 125 to find him.
Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to his location:
Step 1: Use HM03 Surf to cross the water to reach the island on the north side of Route 125.
Step 2: Once you arrive, turn left and speak to Sailor Ernest to initiate a rematch battle.
Method #3: Room 1 of Sea Mauville
Sea Mauville is a half-sunken, decommissioned research facility located north of Route 108. To reach the location of the free Dive Ball, you’ll need:
- The seventh Gym Badge from Mossdeep City to use Dive outside of combat
- A Pokémon that knows HM03 Surf
- A Pokémon that knows HM07 Dive
To obtain the Dive Ball in Sea Mauville, you’ll need to locate the key to unlock Room 1 of the ship.
Start by making your way to Sea Mauville’s entrance by using Surf to navigate through the water:
Step 1: From the entrance of Sea Mauville, surf to the right side of the ship.
Step 2: Walk along the hallway to reach the ship’s main deck.
Step 3: On the ship’s main deck, enter the doorway that leads to the ship’s interior.
Step 4: Once you’re inside, turn left and head straight down until you reach the end of the hallway.
Step 5: Use Surf on the water at the hallway’s end, then Dive at the spot where the water is dark.
Step 6: You’ll now be underwater. Follow the path that leads south until you reach a corner.
Step 7: Turn right at the corner and continue following the path that leads east.
Step 8: When you reach the end of the path again, follow the path that leads north.
Step 9: At the end of the path, return to the surface of the water by using Dive again.
Step 10: After you’ve returned to the surface, head north and talk to the child wearing the pink inner tube to obtain the Key to Room 1.
Step 11: Dive back into the water to make your way back to the left side of the ship. There’s a door on the left side that was previously locked, but the Key to Room 1 will unlock it.
Step 12: Inside Room 1, you’ll find a Dive Ball waiting for you in the middle of the room.
How Do Dive Balls Work?
The catch rate modifier of Dive Balls is 3.5x when used on Pokémon encountered while surfing, fishing, or while underwater.
However, it only has a catch rate modifier of 1x under other circumstances.
Here’s a table that compares the catch rate modifiers and prices of other frequently-used Pokéballs:
Type of Pokéball | Catch Rate Modifier | Price |
---|---|---|
Pokéball | 1x | 200 |
Great Ball | 1.5x | 600 |
Ultra Ball | 2x | 1200 |
Dive Ball (Pokémon found while surfing, fishing, or underwater) | 3.5x | 1000 |
You’re going to be exploring a lot of water in Hoenn, so grab some Dive Balls whenever you can. They’re perfect for catching Pokémon you’re bound to find in Hoenn’s seas.
