Where To Get the Griseous Orb in Pokémon ORAS

Giratina in battle in Pokémon ORAS

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the Griseous Orb is hidden in an underwater trench on Route 130. So you’ll need HM07 Dive to get it. And to use Dive outside of battle, you will first need to beat the seventh Gym in Mossdeep City.

The Griseous Orb is Giratina’s Legendary item, which is an item tied to a particular Legendary Pokémon. If Giratina holds the Griseous Orb, it boosts the power of Dragon and Ghost-type attacks by 20%.

Additionally, the Orb transforms Giratina into its Origin Forme. This form has the ability Levitate instead. Its stats are also redistributed to be more offensive, losing 20 Defense and Special Defense and gaining 20 Attack and Special Attack.

Dialga’s Adamant Orb and Palkia’s Lustrous Orb can also be found in other underwater trenches on nearby routes. Their respective Orbs also boost the moves of their corresponding types, but their forms remain the same.

Griseous Orb Location (Step-by-Step)

The Griseous Orb is a hidden item that won’t be visible in the overworld. And since you can’t use the Dowsing Machine underwater, you’ll need to tap the A button in the general location of where the item is supposed to be until you get it.

Before heading off to find the Griseous Orb, make sure you’ve first:

  • Obtained the seventh Gym Badge from Liza and Tate, Mossdeep City’s Gym Leaders
  • Brought a Pokémon with HM03 Surf
  • Brought a Pokémon with HM07 Dive

If you’re all set, start by flying over to Route 130.

Step 1: Surf onto the water facing east, but immediately start moving north towards a darker spot on the water.

Use Dive to go underwater on this spot in the north of Route 130 (pictured below).

Step 2: Interact with the Griseous Orb hidden in the north corner (pictured below). If you don’t get it right away, just keep tapping A until you get it.

Griseous Orb Details

In competitive battles, both Forms of Giratina share a similar role.

Both Altered and Origin Giratina are Bulky Defog users. While Giratina does have respectable offensive stats, its absurdly high HP stat makes it shine.

With a base HP of 150, only a handful of Pokémon have a higher base HP than Giratina. It has great defensive stats on both forms, which makes Giratina an extremely durable tank. It even has access to the Will-O-Wisp + Hex combo.

Since you can only be in Origin Forme while holding the Griseous Orb, there’s no other substitute for it.

Giratina (Origin) still packs a punch for a tanky Pokémon, thanks to Griseous Orb’s benefits.
