Where To Get Mewtwo’s Mega Stones (X+Y) in Pokémon ORAS

Mega Mewtwo X & Mega Mewtwo Y from Pokémon ORAS

Unlike most Pokémon, Mewtwo can Mega Evolve using two different Mega Stones: Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y. Mewtwonite X is obtainable on the ground west of the Professor’s lab in Littleroot Town, while Mewtwonite Y is on the ground near the Pokémon League’s entrance.

Mega Stones are held items that allow certain Pokémon to Mega Evolve, granting them a massive boost to their base stats. Most Mega Evolutions also change the Pokémon’s ability, which lasts until the battle concludes.

  • Mewtwonite X allows Mewtwo to Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X, a formidable Psychic and Fighting-type Physical Sweeper.
  • Mewtwonite Y turns Mewtwo into Mega Mewtwo Y, a form of Mewtwo that improves Mewtwo’s strength as a Special Sweeper.

Below we’ll show you the exact location of both Mega Stones for Mewtwo.

Mewtwonite X Location

Most Mega Stones aren’t obtainable until after you defeat/catch Kyogre or Groudon in Sootopolis City. More specifically, in the Cave of Origin.

This major event happens right before you get to challenge the eighth and final Gym.

After you defeat/catch Kyogre or Groudon, all you have to do to obtain Mewtwonite X is to fly back to Littleroot Town, and then go to the leftmost part of the town, right next to Professor Birch’s laboratory.

Mewtwonite Y Location

Since this Mega Stone is located in the Pokémon League, here’s what you need to do first before getting this particular Mega Stone for Mewtwo:

  • Defeated/Caught Kyogre or Groudon
  • Obtained all eight badges
  • Cleared the Victory Road

When you’re ready, fly to the Pokémon League.

To your left, pick up the sparkling item (pictured below) which should be Mewtwonite Y.

Is Mewtwo Obtainable in ORAS?

Mewtwo’s summary screen

Mewtwo has been a highly-coveted Pokémon ever since its debut in the original Pokémon Red and Blue. Not only does it look cool, but it’s also a very powerful Pokémon.

And in this generation of games, Mewtwo has two Mega Evolution forms, making Mewtwo even more highly sought after.

Unfortunately, Mewtwo isn’t a catchable Pokémon in Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. You can only obtain Mewtwo by trading it from Pokémon X or Y, or by transferring it from Pokémon Black 2 or White 2 using Pokémon Bank.
