Nest Balls can be obtained through various methods in the game. The most reliable way to obtain Nest Balls is by purchasing them from the Verdanturf Poké Mart for 1000 Pokédollars each.

But if you don’t have access to Verdanturf Town yet, you can also obtain Nest Balls by defeating Schoolkid Jerry or Schoolkid Karen in a rematch. Rematches can be initiated through the Trainer’s Eye function on the PokeNav Plus.

Unfortunately, the chances of receiving a Nest Ball as a reward for defeating either of them are only 20%. You can find both Schoolkid Jerry and Schoolkid Karen on Route 116’s east side.

There are a couple other Nest Balls you can find in OR/AS, so we’ll cover all of the methods below in this guide.

Method 1: Verdanturf Town Poké Mart

Verdanturf Town is a small town located in the central-western Hoenn.

You can access the town by traveling west from Mauville City and Route 117.

The Verdanturf Poké Mart is located right next to the town’s Pokémon Center, and this is where you can purchase Nest Balls for 1000 Pokédollars each. Simply speak to the top clerk near the back wall to buy Nest Balls, as well as other special Poké Balls such as Heal Balls and Luxury Balls.

Method 2: Rematch with Schoolkid Jerry

The AreaNav is a feature of the PokéNav Plus, which displays the map of the Hoenn Region.

Upon selecting the map, you will see various tabs, including the Trainer’s Eye tab. This tab allows you to locate specific trainers across Hoenn who are ready for a rematch, indicated by a “Battle Ready” sign next to their profile.

When you defeat rematchable trainers, you have a small chance of obtaining an item as a reward.

When you defeat Schoolkid Jerry, he has a 20% chance of giving you one Nest Ball.

Route 116 is a route that connects Rustboro City and Rusturf Tunnel. On the east side of the route, there’s a maze that can only be accessed using HM01 Cut.

Schoolkid Jerry can be found shortly after entering the maze. Look for him in the area nearby and speak to him to initiate the rematch.

You can check the Trainer’s Eye tab on Route 116 to see if he’s up for a rematch; if he’s ready, head to Rustboro City’s east exit to reach Schoolkid Jerry. Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough of the process:

Step 1: Head to Route 116, which is located at the east exit of Rustboro City.

Step 2: Once you’re on Route 116, head east through the tall grass. You’ll pass by several trainers on your way.

Step 3: Look for the maze-like section to the left of the green building. Use HM01 Cut to cut down the tree that’s blocking the way through the maze.

Step 4: After cutting down the tree, head into the maze and talk to Schoolkid Jerry to start the rematch.

You can find Schoolkid Karen deeper inside the maze on Route 116. If you defeat her in a rematch using Trainer’s Eye, you’ll also have a 20% chance of obtaining a Nest Ball as a reward.

Just make sure to check the Trainer’s Eye tab on Route 116 to see if she’s up for a rematch; if so, here’s how to find her:

Step 1: Start from Schoolkid Jerry’s location and walk towards the west along the ledge in this small maze.

Step 2: Make your way up the narrow path in the maze and speak to Schoolkid Karen to start the rematch.

Method 4 & 5: Route 120 and Team Aqua / Magma Hideout

There are also two Nest Balls you can find while exploring Hoenn. However, this is not the most efficient method to get them. Your best bet is to stick with the methods listed above for a more reliable way of obtaining Nest Balls.

If you really want to find these items, here’s a quick rundown of where you can find them:

Route 120: You can find a Nest Ball on a narrow ledge near the body of water in Route 120’s north side.

Team Aqua/Magma Hideout: In the basement of the enemy team’s hideout in Lilycove City, you can find the Nest Ball next to the Aqua Suit or Magma Suit, depending on if you’re playing Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby.

How Do Nest Balls Work?

Catching a Pokémon with a Nest Ball

Using Nest Balls on lower leveled Pokémon increases the chances of catching them. This special ball comes with a catch rate modifier that varies from x1 to x3 depending on the target’s exact level.

Your current Pokémon’s level has no bearing on Nest Ball’s catch rate modifier.

Here’s a table that compares the catch rate modifiers and prices of other frequently-used Pokéballs:

Type of Pokéball Catch Rate Modifier Price
Pokéball 1x 200
Great Ball 1.5x 600
Ultra Ball 2x 1200
Nest Ball (target is Lv. 30+) 1x 1000
Nest Ball (target is Lv. 20 to Lv. 29) 2x 1000
Nest Ball (target is Lv. 19 or lower) 3x 1000

Tip: Nest Balls can be super helpful early on in your playthrough since you’ll mostly encounter low-level Pokémon. They’re also great for filling up your Pokedex with the Pokémon you find in the game’s first few areas.
