How To Access New Mauville in Pokémon ORAS (Unlock Guide + All Items)

New Mauville is an abandoned power plant located underneath Mauville City. You can reach it by surfing along the northeast side of Route 110.

However, the gate to the actual facility is locked and inaccessible by default. You can open the gate to New Mauville by taking on a sidequest from Mauville City’s Gym Leader, Wattson. He will ask you to check up on a computer inside the power plant. But you can only do this sidequest after you’ve defeated/captured Kyogre or Groudon (depending on which version you’re playing).

Inside of New Mauville you’ll find some useful items lying on the ground, along with some interactable Voltorb posing as obtainable items. You can also find Ampharosite, Ampharos’ Mega Stone.

Unlocking New Mauville (Step-by-Step)

If you’ve explored the seas on Route 110 before, you might have come across New Mauville already. However, you aren’t allowed past the gates without Wattson’s permission.

But before attempting to access New Mauville and take on Wattson’s request, you should have first:

Defeated/captured Kyogre or Groudon
A Pokémon with Surf in your party

To gain access to New Mauville and start the sidequest, head to Mauville City’s Pokémon Center. Wattson will be waiting for you in front of Square Tower.

Step 1: Head south from the Pokécenter and talk to Wattson.

Step 2: Go back inside the city’s interior using the north entrance.

Step 3: Walk west until you see an elevator on the north wall.

Step 4: Use the elevator to get to the second floor.

Step 5: Make your way toward Wattson’s apartment on the city’s south side.

Step 6: Follow the hallway heading south.

Step 7: Then, turn right and continue moving east.

Step 8: Enter the second apartment from the left (it’ll be located near the top of the screen).

Step 9: Talk to Wattson, and he’ll grant you access to New Mauville.

Step 10: Then, go to Route 110 using Mauville City’s south exit.

Step 11: Use Surf on the body of water near Cycling Road’s entrance.

Step 12: Surf east until you land outside a small building – this is New Mauville.

Step 13: Interact with the gate to enter the power plant.

Once the gate opens, you’re free to explore New Mauville even after you finish the sidequest.

If you want to finish the sidequest before exploring, here’s a quick play-by-play of what to do (it’s easy):

Go through the door located northwest from the entrance.
Inside this generator room, interact with the big computer you see in the middle of the room.
Then head back to Wattson’s apartment to claim your reward: TM24 Thunderbolt.

Ampharos’ Mega Stone

Ampharosite’s location

The Ampharosite is located inside the Generator Room. Specifically, in the southeast corner of the room.

It’s right next to a Metal Coat as well.

Among the ten Pokeballs inside New Mauville, only six of them are obtainable items. Four of them are wild Voltorb. You can also find a Max Repel using the Dowsing Machine in the southwest corner of New Mauville.
