You can obtain the Old Rod by talking to a fisherman NPC in Dewford Town. He’s located directly outside of the Dewford Town Gym.
To reach Dewford Town, you must first help rescue Peeko at Rusturf Tunnel. Doing this allows you to board Mr. Briney’s boat, which travels from Route 104 to Dewford Town.
Getting to Dewford Town
To be able to travel to Dewford Town, be sure you’ve done all of the following:
- Defeated Roxanne, the first Gym Leader from Rustboro City
- Retrieved the stolen Devon Parts and Rescue Peeko in Rusturf Tunnel
- Received the “Letter” Key Item from Mr. Stone of Devon Corporation
If you’ve done that part of the main story, meet with Mr. Briney over at Route 104’s south side.
To get there:
Step 1: From Rustboro City, head south to Route 104.
Step 2: Enter Petalburg Woods and exit south.
Step 3: Head to the house near the docks.
Step 4: Talk to Mr. Briney, and he’ll take you to Dewford Town.
Obtaining the Old Rod
Once you get to Dewford Town, the fisherman who will give you the Old Rod is right outside the Dewford Gym.
Step 1: Start at Dewford Town’s Pokémon Center and head right past the Gym.
Step 2: Talk to the fisherman here and receive the Old Rod.
Pokémon Obtainable with The Old Rod
With the Old Rod, you can now attempt to fish for Pokémon in any body of water.
