How To Get Quick Claws in Pokémon ORAS

1 Pokémon Trainers’ School – you can find the school in Rustboro City and you’ll get the Quick Claw from the teacher inside. No
2 Held item by a wild Persian found in a Mirage Island on Route 124 (post-game) or a wild Zangoose found on Route 114 (Omega Ruby only) – 5% chance each. Yes

There are two ways to get Quick Claws in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. You can get this item from the teacher in the Pokémon Trainers’ School in Rustboro City, or you can steal multiple Quick Claws as held items from wild Persians or Zangoose.

If you go after the held item farming method, then wild Persian or Zangoose both have a 5% chance of carrying a Quick Claw. So you can either catch them or steal their item in battle (if they’re holding anything).

In this guide we’ll cover both methods in detail to help you acquire as many Quick Claws as you’d need.

Method #1: Pokémon Trainers’ School

You can get one free Quick Claw from the Trainers’ School in Rustboro City by simply speaking to the teacher inside. The school can be found on the right side of the Pokémon Center in Rustboro City.

Here’s where to find the teacher:

Step 1: From the Pokémon Center in Rustboro City, go east across the street.

Step 2: You’ll find the Pokémon Trainers’ School here directly next to a water fountain (pictured below). Go inside.

Step 3: Once inside, you’ll find the teacher NPC behind a desk at the northern end of the classroom (circled below).

Speak to him and you’ll get a free Quick Claw.

Method #2: Held by Wild Persian & Zangoose

While this method is repeatable, it’s also the trickiest way to obtain Quick Claws.

If you encounter a Persian or a Zangoose in the wild, there is a 5% chance that they’re holding this item.

Tip: Bring a Pokémon who knows the move Thief so you can quickly obtain any held item if the wild Persian or Zangoose is carrying one.

Finding Wild Persian (post-game)

Wild Persian can only be found on a Mirage Island that appears on Route 124. Mirage Islands can only be accessed while soaring with Latios/Latias using the Eon Flute, and so Persians are only available during the post-game.

This means that you need to defeat Primal Groudon/Kyogre before Mirage spots such as Islands, Caves, and Forests begin showing up on the map.

Note: Mirage spots appear randomly and refresh once daily, so there’s no guarantee that one will pop up precisely on Route 124.

While soaring, you can identify a Mirage spot by a red sparkle that appears above their location. Circled in the picture below is an example of a Mirage spot.

In Alpha Sapphire, this is the only way to obtain the Quick Claw repeatedly. So be on the lookout for a Mirage spot that can appear on Route 124 if you’re chasing Persians.

Finding Wild Zangoose (Omega Ruby only)

Zangoose is exclusive to Omega Ruby (its counterpart and rival, Seviper, is exclusive to Alpha Sapphire).

You can find this Pokémon on Route 114 – and you have a 19% chance of encountering it through just walking around in the grass.

So your odds aren’t too bad!

Once you can get to Route 114, walk through the tall grass until you find a Zangoose. Then in battle, use the move Thief to steal the Quick Claw if it’s holding one. If not, keep chasing wild Zangoose until you find one.

Repeat this process until you encounter a Zangoose holding a Quick Claw.

How Does the Quick Claw Work?

A Pokémon holding a Quick Claw has a 20% chance of attacking first in battle, but only if both Pokémon use a move without priority.

So if you use Dragon Pulse with the Quick Claw activated, but your opponent uses Quick Attack, you will still attack second. Otherwise, the Quick Claw lets you move first if it triggers in any other circumstance.

Although the effect of Quick Claw is random, it’s still a reliable item in the early game.

And since you can get your first Quick Claw immediately when you reach Rustboro City, it’s a decent held item to give to your Pokémon until you find better items later in your playthrough.
