How To Get the Rocky Helmet in Pokémon ORAS

Standing inside the Weather Institute in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

You can obtain the Rocky Helmet from a Scientist NPC that’s inside the Weather Institute on Route 119. This is the only way to get the Rocky Helmet in the game, and you can find Route 119 just west of Fortree City.

But before you can obtain this item, you need to defeat Team Magma/Aqua from within the Weather Institute first. The Scientist will give you the Rocky Helmet when you speak to him after beating team Aqua/Magma in battle.

As for the item itself?

The Rocky Helmet is a perfect held item for defensive Pokémon. If the item’s holder gets hit by contact moves, the attacker will also lose a portion of its HP.

Prerequisites

The Scientist from the Weather Institute will give you the Rocky Helmet after you beat away Team Magma/Aqua when they invade their facility.

The first time you set foot on Route 119, you’ll find three Grunts blocking the bridge that leads to the eastern side of the route (towards Fortree City).

To make them leave, head inside the Weather Institute and fight Team Magma/Aqua Grunts and the Magma/Aqua Admin.

After defeating the Magma/Aqua Admin, the Scientist (the one with the glasses wearing a white lab coat) tells you to speak to him again downstairs.

If you go downstairs and speak with him then he will give you the Rocky Helmet at that point.

The Rocky Helmet’s Location

Let’s say you already battled with Team Magma/Aqua in the Weather Institute but you never got the item.

In that case you can still find the Scientist on the first floor of the building.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide on how to get to the Weather Institute and where to find the scientist:

Step 1: Fly to Route 119. From the Route sign, head south, taking the first two sets of stairs.

Step 4: Once inside, go to the left of the reception desk.

You’ll find the Scientist standing towards the left of the entryway (pictured below). Speak to him and you’ll get the Rocky Helmet.

Rocky Helmet Uses

If a Pokémon holding the Rocky Helmet gets hit by a contact move, the attacker will take damage equal to 1/6th of its maximum HP. Contact moves are defined as attacks that physically touch a Pokémon.

While contact moves primarily consist of physical moves, some special attacks can make contact as well.

There are 6 special moves in Pokémon ORAS that are considered contact moves:

  • Petal Dance
  • Trump Card
  • Wring Out
  • Grass Knot
  • Draining Kiss
  • Infestation

The Rocky Helmet works best with tanks with high Defense stats. Pokémon such as Skarmory and Metagross will benefit the most from this held item.
