You can obtain TM03 Psyshock by talking to a man in the southeastern house of Pacifidlog Town. This is a floating town located south of the Hoenn mainland, and you will need Surf to access this area.
Psyshock is a Psychic-type move that hits the target’s Defense instead of its Special Defense stat. It still uses the user’s Special Attack to calculate damage. It’s a good move to catch Special Defense walls off guard by damaging them with a move they least expect from a Special Attacker.
TM03 Location (Step-by-Step)
Pacifidlog Town is an optional location that can be accessed by surfing west of Route 131.
You can access the town only after doing a couple things:
- Obtaining the sixth Gym Badge from Winona, Fortree City’s Gym Leader
- Defeating Team Aqua/Magma’s Admins in their hideout near Lilycove City
If you haven’t been to Pacifidlog Town yet, here’s how to get there:
Step 1: Start at Lilycove City’s shore on the right side.

Step 2: Continue surfing east past Route 124 until you reach Mosdeep City.

Step 3: Once you’re in Mossdeep City, head to its south shore.

Step 4: Start surfing south to exit Mossdeep City.

Step 5: When you reach Route 127, turn left and continue surfing south.

Step 6: Head past the island on Route 128.

Step 7: Turn left once you reach Route 129.

Step 8: Continue surfing west along Route 130 and Route 131.

Step 9: Enter the first house on the south side of the town.

Step 10: Finally, talk to the man inside this house to obtain TM03 Psyshock.

Psyshock is a unique move that calculates damage using the user’s Special Attack, but using the target’s Defense stat.
It’s only one of the three moves in the game that work like this – the other two moves are Psystrike and Secret Sword.
Despite having a slightly lower base power than Psychic, Psyshock can sometimes be better than Psychic.
Take Chansey, for example, a notorious Special Defense wall with an abysmally low Defense stat.
Typically, trainers would switch Chansey out when faced with a Physical Attacker and switch it back in against Special Attackers.
With Psyshock, you can be unpredictable and deal massive amounts of damage to Chansey using a Special Attacker.
And just like Chansey, many Special Defense walls tend to have lower Defense stats. So using Psyshock could be the difference between winning and losing the battle.
