How To Get TM06 Toxic in Pokémon ORAS

Using TM06 Toxic in Battle (Pokémon ORAS)

TM06 Toxic can be obtained on the ground in Fiery Path, which is an underground cave that travels through Mt. Chimney. However, the western path in the cave is blocked by a boulder. So you need HM04 Strength to pass through.

To be able to use Strength in the overworld, you need to obtain the 4th Gym Badge from the Lavaridge City Gym.

Before you head out and explore Fiery Path, you should first complete a couple prerequisites:

  • Get the fourth Gym Badge from Flannery, Lavaridge City’s Gym Leader
  • Have a Pokémon that knows Strength

Now that you’re all set, get over to Lavaridge Town’s Pokémon Center and follow these directions:

When you use Toxic to inflict the Badly Poisoned status to your opponent, they will take 1/16 of their maximum HP in damage, with the damage increasing by another 1/16 cumulatively every turn (the maximum being 15/16 of a target’s max health).

Toxic can be learned by most Pokémon in the game, Poison and non-Poison types alike.

Though when Poison-type Pokémon use Toxic, it will never miss – even if the target is in the middle of using Fly or Dig.

It’s also important to note that Toxic will fail when used against Poison and Steel-type Pokémon.

Toxic is a good way of dealing with defensive Pokémon, as it greatly diminishes their ability to tank any form of damage.

This move is also the preferred method of damage-dealing for stall teams. Stall is a playstyle that uses defensively oriented Pokémon with self-healing moves and other support moves to wear their opponents down slowly.

Tip: If you’re running Toxic, you should also consider running Protect. A well-timed Protect helps you stall a turn for Toxic to deal more damage. However, if your opponent successfully predicts your Protect, they will have a free turn to switch out or set up.
