The TM for Sunny Day can be obtained inside Scorched Slab, which is a small cave on a body of water along Route 120. You’ll find Route 120 located east of Fortree City.
Sunny Day intensifies the sun for five turns, raising the power of all Fire-type moves. Specific moves and abilities also benefit from Sunny Day, which Fire and Grass-type Pokémon almost exclusively possess.
TM11 Sunny Day Location (Step-by-Step)
Scorched Slab is a place that’s mostly overlooked if you don’t know where to explore.
So if you want to get there, make sure you’ve done these things first:
- Obtained the fifth Gym Badge from Norman, Petalburg City’s Gym Leader
- Gained access to Fortree City
- Have a Pokémon that knows Surf
If you’re all set, head over to Fortree City’s Pokémon Center to start.
Step 1: Head east and climb up the ladder.
Step 2: Continue to follow the path heading east.
Step 3: At the end of the path, climb down the ladder.
Step 4: Enter Route 120 by using the exit on the right.
Step 5: Follow the path, then go down the stairs near the tall grass.
Step 6: Use Surf on the body of water at the bottom of the stairs.
Step 7: Enter Scorched Slab by surfing to the cave’s south side. You’ll see the entrance if you just keep surfing down in the water.
Step 8: Disembark here, and TM11 Sunny Day should be at the end of the current floor.

Sunny Day intensifies the sun for five turns, replacing any other existing weather effects that may be present.
During intense sunshine, various moves have additional effects that mainly benefit Fire and Grass-types. Here’s a list of moves affected by the sunny weather:
- Increases Fire-type moves’ base power by 50%
- Decreases Water-type moves’ base power by 50%
- Solar Beam charges immediately
- Thunder and Hurricane’s accuracy are reduced to 50%
- Growth raises Attack by 2 stages instead of 1
- Morning Sun, Moonlight and Synthesis recover 66% of the user’s HP instead of 50%
Since most Fire-types learn Solar Beam, letting your Pokémon learn Sunny Day might be a good idea, since it provides good coverage against all the types they’re weak against; namely Water, Rock, and Ground.
And with Sunny Day, you don’t have to charge for one turn to deliver a devastating super effective move.
Some abilities also trigger when the sunny weather is in effect, such as:
- Chlorophyll – When sunny, it doubles the user’s Speed
- Dry Skin – Receives double damage from Fire attacks and loses HP each turn in sunny weather
- Forecast – Changes Castform to its Sunny Form, its Fire-type form.
- Flower Gift – Changes Cherrim to its Sunshine Form, increasing its Attack and Special Defense
- Leaf Guard – Prevents status conditions in sunny weather.
- Solar Power – Boosts Special Attack in sunny weather, but HP decreases every turn.
Among the list, Chlorophyll and Solar Power stand out the most. The stat boosts these abilities give can turn the tide of any battle.
Tip: Drought makes the weather sunny when entering battle. Since you don’t have to use a turn to make the weather sunny, this is the most efficient way of running a Sun team.
You can also let your Drought user hold a Heat Rock, an item that extends the duration of the sunny weather from five turns to eight turns. Only the following Pokémon have Drought as an ability:
- Mega Charizard Y
- Vulpix (Hidden Ability)
- Ninetales (Hidden Ability)
- Groudon
