TM12 Taunt is obtainable as a reward from the Trick Master when you first visit the Trick House. This is a peculiar house on Route 110 containing puzzles and mazes.
In the Trick House, your goal is to find the scroll with a code hidden within the maze. The code will lead you to a room with the Trick Master, who will give you rare items for solving his puzzles.
TM12 Taunt Location (Step-by-Step)
Located on Route 110, the Trick House features various puzzles around a specific HM. For this puzzle, you’re going to need to cut down prickly trees using HM01 Cut.
The puzzle changes each time you visit with a new Gym Badge (up to six times). Since you’ll be visiting the Trick House for the first time here, make sure you’ve:
- Obtained the second Gym Badge from Brawly, Dewford Town’s Gym Leader
- Dealt with Team Aqua/Magma in Slateport City
- Brought a Pokémon that has HM01 Cut
From the Slateport City Pokémon Center, here’s how to get to the Trick House.
Step 1: Follow the path on the right, then go north to continue along this path.
Step 2: Enter Route 110 by using Slateport City’s north exit.
Step 3: Now that you’re on Route 110, follow the path heading northwest.
Step 4: Continue going north, and you’ll eventually reach the Trick House.
Step 5: Talk to the Trick Master, who’s hiding underneath the table.
Step 6: Interact with the scroll to enter the maze.
Step 7: To solve this puzzle, locate the scroll hidden in the maze. Start by following the red highlighted path below.
Step 8: Using HM01 Cut, you need to cut the trees and follow the path in the image below.
Step 9: Defeat the trainer pictured below in a battle, and you should then be able to pass through.
Step 10: Interact with the scroll up ahead to learn the secret code needed to exit the maze.
Step 11: Exit the maze, and go to the north wall to interact with the scroll.
Step 12: Talk to the Trick Master, and he’ll reward you with TM12 Taunt.

When you use Taunt, your opponent can’t use Status moves for three turns. On the turn that Taunt is used, if the Pokémon using Taunt goes first and the target is about to use a Status move, the target’s move will fail.
Taunt is useful against Pokémon who might be looking to use stat-boosting moves, like Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot.
You can also prevent your opponent from setting entry hazards, like Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes.
However, Taunt is mainly used to shut down Pokémon who run stalling moves, like Toxic or Protect.
A well-timed Taunt will waste your opponent’s turn, possibly forcing them to switch out on the next turn.
