How To Get TM13 Ice Beam in Pokémon ORAS

Suicune using Ice Beam in battle (Pokémon Alpha Sapphire)

TM13 Ice Beam can be found behind a locked door within Sea Mauville. To obtain the Storage Key and unlock the door, you need to be able to fully explore Sea Mauville, which you can only do once you have HM03 Surf and HM07 Dive.

TM13 Location (Step-by-Step)

While you can explore Sea Mauville when you first have Surf, you won’t be able to fully explore it without Dive.

To reach the location of TM13 Ice Beam, you’ll need these prerequisites:

  • The seventh Gym Badge from Mossdeep City to use Dive outside of combat
  • A Pokémon with Surf
  • A Pokémon with Dive

In Sea Mauville, you will have to retrieve various keys to unlock different parts of the ship. Eventually you’ll find the Storage Key, which unlocks the room where TM13 Ice Beam is in. If you’re ready, Surf to Sea Mauville’s entrance:

Ice Beam is a Special Ice-type move with a 10% chance of freezing the target. Arguably being one of the best Ice-type moves, its high base power and perfect accuracy makes it a very reliable attack to deal with a wide variety of Pokémon.

Ice Beam is, essentially, a more consistent version of the move Blizzard – a 70%, 110 base power and accuracy move with the same effect.

Despite having a higher base power, Blizzard is rarely picked over Ice Beam.

Blizzard’s abysmal accuracy is hard to justify when Ice Beam can get the job done.

Ice Beam is an excellent move for many sweepers, especially Water-type Pokémon that depend on it to deal with Grass-types. And Ice Beam’s coverage against Dragon-types is indispensable.
