How To Get TM15 Hyper Beam in Pokémon ORAS

Using Hyper Beam in battle in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

TM15 Hyper Beam can be bought for 50,000 Pokédollars on the fourth floor of the Lilycove Department Store. Both clerks on the department store’s fourth floor also sell other TMs.

Usually portrayed as the strongest move in the animated series and movies, Hyper Beam is quite underwhelming in the actual games.

It’s a damage-dealing Normal-type move with a base power of 150. However, you’re forced to skip one turn after using it. This huge drawback prevents it from ever becoming viable.

TM15 Hyper Beam Location

The Lilycove Department Store is a multi-level PokéMart located on the north side of Lilycove City, a coastal city east of Route 121. If you haven’t been to Lilycove City yet, make sure you’ve:

  • Obtained the sixth Gym Badge from Winona, the Gym Leader from Fortree City
  • Explored Route 121

Now that you’re set, head to Lilycove City’s entrance through Route 121’s east exit.

Once you’re in Lilycove City, here’s where to buy TM15 Hyper Beam in Lilycove Department Store:

Step 1: Head east until you pass through Lilycove City’s Pokémon Center.

Hyper Beam is a Special Normal-type move that requires you to rest after you use it, making you unable to fight or switch Pokémon for one turn.

Even with a very high base power of 150, it’s a bad move; if you manage to knock out an opponent with Hyper Beam, you would still need to recharge. And it’s never a good idea to give your opponent a free turn.

The only redeeming quality of Hyper Beam is its great animation and sound design, which is a callback to Gen 1’s nostalgic Hyper Beam sound effect.

But if you really want to make Hyper Beam work, here are a few tips:

#1: Consider letting Normal-type Pokémon learn Hyper Beam. Normal-type STAB (Same-type attack bonus) grants Hyper Beam an additional 75 base power, which is quite decent.

#2: You can also let Pokémon with a type-changing ability to learn Hyper Beam. Sylveon’s Pixilate turns Hyper Beam into a Fairy-type move and boosts it by 20%. Additionally, it still benefits from the boost STAB gives.

#3: Lastly, you can use Hyper Beam as a finishing move. If you successfully knock out your opponent’s final Pokémon with Hyper Beam, you can benefit from its high base power without having to suffer its drawback.
