How To Get TM16 Light Screen in Pokémon ORAS

Using Light Screen in battle (Pokémon Alpha Sapphire)

TM16 Light Screen can be bought for 10,000 Pokédollars on the fourth floor of the Lilycove Department Store. Both clerks on the department store’s fourth floor also sell other TMs.

For five turns after being used, TM16 Light Screen reduces, for the entire team, the damage taken from special moves. With Light Screen mitigating the damage you take, you’ll be able to set up and sweep more easily.

TM16 Light Screen Location

The Lilycove Department Store is a multi-level PokéMart located on the north side of Lilycove City, a coastal city east of Route 121. If you haven’t been to Lilycove City yet, you’ll need to do these things to get there:

  • Obtain the sixth Gym Badge from Winona, the Gym Leader from Fortree City
  • Explore Route 121

So to get your TM, head to Lilycove City’s entrance through Route 121’s east exit. Once you’re in Lilycove City, here’s where to buy TM16 Light Screen in Lilycove Department Store:

Light Screen is a Psychic-type status move that halves, for five turns, all incoming damage from special moves.

Light Screen is applied to your entire team for the duration, even if you switch out to another Pokémon.

A move that’s always used with Light Screen is Reflect. It’s basically Light Screen for physical moves. Commonly referred to as Dual Screening, using both moves can easily make any glass cannon into a bulky Pokémon.

Effective Pokémon to set up Dual Screens are Pokémon with the Prankster ability, which gives +1 move priority when using status moves, like Light Screen and Reflect. Most moves have a priority value of 0, meaning all moves with +1 priority or higher will always go first, regardless of each Pokémon’s speed.

In competitive battles, Meowstic (Male) and Klefki are almost exclusively used for Dual Screening.

Even when using this move alone to protect against certain threats, Light Screen’s sheer utility makes it one of the best support moves in the game.

But watch out for opposing Pokémon with the moves Brick Break or Defog, as those instantly lift the effects of both Light Screen and Reflect.

Tip: When a Pokémon holding Light Clay uses Light Screen or Reflect, the effects of those moves last eight turns instead of five turns.
