How To Get TM19 Roost in Pokémon ORAS

Zapdos using TM19 Roost in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

You can obtain TM19 Roost by defeating the sixth Gym Leader, Winona. She is Fortree City’s Gym Leader who specializes in using Flying-type Pokémon. However, you’re first going to need the Devon Scope to get past the invisible Kecleon blocking the path to the Gym.

TM19 Roost Location

When you first arrive at Fortree City, you will be blocked from the path reaching the Gym by something invisible, which turns out to be a Kecleon. The only way to pass through is by using the Devon Scope on it – this is a Key Item given to you by Steven on the bridge at Route 120.

If you don’t know where the Fortree City Gym is, start by heading to Fortree City’s Pokémon Center.

Step 1: Head east from the Center and climb up the ladder.

Roost is a Flying-type Status move that restores 50% of the user’s health. Additionally, if the Pokémon using Roost is a Flying-type, it loses its Flying-type until the end of the turn.

Roost is quite possibly one of the most useful non-damaging Flying-type moves, and almost all Pokémon that can learn Roost should consider running it.

It’s an excellent recovery option for both offensive and defensive Pokémon.

Since it’s not explicitly stated in-game, Roost’s additional effect can sometimes be overlooked. But losing your Flying typing can be very useful in many situations.

By using Roost, your opponent’s super-effective moves on the last turn might not be super-effective anymore this turn.

However, once you’ve lost your Flying typing, you’ll also be vulnerable to Ground-type moves — which could pose a problem when you’re using Roost on Pokémon like Charizard or Zapdos, who are weak to Ground if they’re not Flying-types.
