How To Get TM45 Attract in Pokémon ORAS

Using Attract on a Shuppet in Pokémon Omega Ruby

TM45 Attract can only be obtained by talking to an NPC inside the Pokémon Contest Hall in Verdanturf Town, which is a small town located west of Route 117. It’s an optional town that you can visit after obtaining the third Gym Badge from Wattson, Mauville City’s Gym Leader.

When you use Attract on a target of the opposite gender, they have a good chance to be immobilized each time they try to attack.

The move will fail against Pokémon of the same gender as the user and Genderless Pokémon.

While it seems good on paper, Attract is too unreliable to use in competitive battles. Since the move relies on the target being of the opposite gender, there might be instances where you can’t use Attract at all. Your opponent can just switch out to remove Attract’s effect as well.

TM45 Attract Location (Step-by-Step)

Verdanturf Town is a quaint little town in central-western Hoenn. Since it’s an optional location to explore, there isn’t much to do here.

You can access Verdanturf Town by heading west from Route 117.

Tip: If you already have the HM for Rock Smash, you can enter Rusturf Tunnel through Verdanturf Town to open up a path to Route 116. This makes it easier for you to return to Rustboro City if you want to.

On the west side of Verdanturf Town is its Contest Hall, a building where Pokémon Contests are held. A Lass NPC will give you the TM for Attract when you talk to her inside.

So if you haven’t been to the town yet, make sure you’ve first:

  • Obtained the third Gym Badge from Wattson, Mauville City’s Gym Leader
  • Explored Route 117

If you’ve already done that, then head over to Verdanturf Town to get started.

Step 1: From Verdanturf Town’s Pokémon Center, start heading west.

Attract is a Normal-type Status move that afflicts an opponent of the opposite gender with the infatuation status condition.

When a Pokémon is infatuated, it cannot use moves 50% of the time. Infatuation is removed when the user or the target Pokémon is switched or knocked out.

Attract will fail when used against the following Pokémon:

  • Genderless Pokémon
  • Pokémon of the same gender as the Attract user
  • Pokémon with the ability Oblivious

You can also remove infatuation with the following moves/items:

Name Type
Aromatherapy Move
Heal Bell Move
Mental Herb Held Item (One-time use)
Red Flute Medicine

The held item Destiny Knot also interacts with the infatuation status condition. If a Destiny Knot holder is infatuated, their opponent also becomes infatuated.

Note: In Competitive Battles, Attract is too unreliable. So in that arena it may be better to let female Pokémon learn Attract, because statistically, more Pokémon are likely to be male. Despite this, there’s still a high percentage of Pokémon that are either female or genderless. Bringing a useless move half of the time is not a risk you should take when battling competitively.

But for a regular playthrough of Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, you can still find plenty of good uses for Attract.
