The TM for Low Sweep can be bought for 10,000 Pokédollars in Mauville City’s PokéMart. The clerk here sells it along with some other TMs as well. You can visit their PokéMart once you have access to Mauville City, so make sure you’ve explored Slateport City and Route 110 first.
TM47 Low Sweep is a damaging move that lowers the target’s Speed.
While there are better Fighting-type moves out there, Low Sweep’s speed reduction might be helpful against an opposing sweeper, making them easier to outspeed for the rest of the team.
TM47 Low Sweep Location
Since TM47 Low Sweep is sold in Mauville City, you’re going to need access to the city. So make sure you’ve done these things first:
- Obtained the second Gym Badge from Brawly, Dewford Town’s Gym Leader
- Dealt with Team Aqua/Magma in Slateport City
- Fought your Rival in Route 110
When you’ve done all that, enter Mauville City through its south entrance on Route 110.
The layout for Mauville City can be quite confusing, so here’s where Mauville City’s PokéMart is located:
Step 1: Enter Mauville City’s south entrance.
Step 2: Head outside to Square Tower.
Step 3: Enter the PokéMart up ahead, east of the Pokémon Center.
Step 4: Talk to the top clerk at the back wall to buy TM47 Low Sweep.
Along with TM47 Low Sweep, the top clerk will also sell the following TMs:

TM47 Low Sweep is a Physical Fighting-type move that also lowers the target’s Speed by one stage.
So in the same way how you can raise each stat up to six times, you can also lower it up to a maximum of six times.
Here’s how much each stage modifies your opponent’s Speed stat:
Stage | Main Stat |
---|---|
0 | x1 |
-1 | x0.66 |
-2 | x0.5 |
-3 | x0.4 |
-4 | x0.33 |
-5 | x0.285 |
-6 | x0.25 |
Because of its mediocre base power, using Low Sweep on an offensive Pokémon may not be ideal. You’re better off with stronger moves, like Close Combat or Superpower.
Since Low Sweep’s effect is what makes it a decent move, you can have utility or defensive Pokémon learn the move instead.
Lowering the Speed of your opponent’s offensive threats might prevent them from sweeping your entire team.
Using Low Sweep can also be more effective in Double Battles, and using it first against a fast Pokémon might change up the turn order, giving you a chance to follow up with another attack with your second Pokémon.
