How To Get TM54 False Swipe in Pokémon ORAS

Using False Swipe in battle in Pokémon ORAS

You can obtain TM54 False Swipe by talking to an NPC inside Rustboro City’s Poké Mart. The NPC has short dark hair, and you’ll find him standing next to the counter.

You can also get the TM as soon as you arrive at Rustboro City, so it’s an easy early-game TM that’s definitely worth picking up.

False Swipe is a damage-dealing move that won’t knock out the target. It will always leave the target with at least 1 HP. This move makes catching Pokémon so much easier.

If you don’t know where the Rustboro Poké Mart is, we’ll show you a step-by-step guide, starting from the city’s south entrance on Route 104

False Swipe is a Physical Normal-type move that deals damage but always leaves the target with at least 1 HP.

Naturally, this move is entirely useless in competitive battles.

But this is because False Swipe is made for catching Pokémon.

It helps to make sure you don’t accidentally knock out a Pokémon you’re trying to catch.

The lower the HP of a wild Pokémon, the easier it is to catch. So by whittling down a wild Pokémon’s HP to 1, you’re maximizing the chance of catching that particular Pokémon.

Depending on the wild Pokémon’s level, you probably need to weaken it first with another move though, since False Swipe only has a base power of 40.

But all that said?

False Swipe is great to have in ORAS, especially when you’re attempting to catch Pokémon with low catch rates like Legendaries.

Tip: The best False Swipe users are Pokémon that can also inflict non-damaging conditions like Sleep or Paralysis. Breloom with Spore and Absol with Thunder Wave are great options for False Swipe users.
