TM61 Will-O-Wisp can be found on the way to the summit of Mt. Pyre. The TM is located outside at Mt. Pyre’s exterior, directly south of the stairs that lead to the summit.
Note that you’ll also need a Pokémon that knows HM03 Surf to access Mt. Pyre.
Will-O-Wisp is a Status move that burns your opponent. It’s an excellent stall move because it severely limits your enemy’s utility. TM61 Will-O-Wisp is primarily learned by Fire- and Ghost-types.
TM61 Will-O-Wisp Location (Step-by-Step)
Mt. Pyre is a Pokémon memorial site located inside a mountain on Route 122. It’s a structure you can access through an entrance at the mountain’s base.
To reach Mt. Pyre’s exterior, use the south exit on the third floor. As you make your way up, you should be able to see the TM’s exact location near the stairs that lead to the mountain’s summit.
But before heading out, here’s everything you’ll need:
- The sixth Gym Badge from Winona, the Gym Leader from Fortree City
- Access to Route 121 & 122
- A Pokémon with HM03 Surf
When you’re ready, make your way to Route 121 to get started.
Step 1: Begin by following the path to the east from the Route 121 sign.
Step 2: Then go down the stairs when you see them. This will have you leaving the route via the south exit.
Step 3: Once you’re on Route 122, use Surf on the nearby body of water.
Step 4: Follow the path heading south until Mt. Pyre’s entrance is visible.
Step 5: Get off here and proceed to Mt. Pyre’s entrance.
Step 6: After entering Mt. Pyre’s main building, proceed to the northwest corner of the room.
Step 7: Then climb the staircase here in the northwest corner (near the Hex Maniac).
Step 8: After you reach the second floor, make your way toward the right side of the room.
Step 9: Then climb up another set of stairs here.
Step 10: On the third floor, there are two exits available.
The exit going down to the south hallway leads to the mountain’s exterior, so that’s what you’re looking for.
Step 11: Use the exit in the south hallway to reach the exterior.
Step 12: You should now be at Mt. Pyre’s exterior. At this point just follow the path heading east.
Step 13: At the end of the path, climb up two sets of stairs to ascend further up the mountain.
Step 14: After climbing the stairs, continue heading westward here.
Step 15: But instead of going up the set of stairs on the left, go down the stairs near the patch of tall grass.
Step 16: This set of stairs will bring you to a small rocky ledge area. TM61 will be on the ground at the end of the path.

Will-O-Wisp is a Fire-type Status move that inflicts the Burn status condition on the target. Fire-type Pokémon are unaffected by this move, but will still activate the ability Flash Fire.
Generally speaking, Will-O-Wisp is the most reliable way to inflict Burn on your opponent. And burn is easily one of the best status conditions in the game: it reduces physical attackers’ damage by half, making them less of a threat. Because of the HP they lose each turn, even Bulky Pokémon are easier to defeat.
With the exception of some Pokémon, Will-O-Wisp is exclusively learned by Fire-types and Ghost-types.
How Burn Works in ORAS
The Burn status condition has two main effects.
- It inflicts damage every turn until the Pokémon faints. It deals damage equal to 1/8th or 12.5% of the afflicted Pokémon’s Max HP at the end of each turn, regardless of the Pokémon’s total HP or Defense stats.
- And a burned Pokémon has its Attack stat reduced by 50%. The Attack reduction is only nullified when the Pokémon has the Ability, Guts. However, it still damages the burned target every turn.
Here’s a quick list of other Abilities that interact with Burn:
Ability Name | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Flame Body | Ability | 30% chance to burn an attacker making direct contact |
Flare Boost | Ability | While burned, Special Attack stat is increased by 50% |
Water Veil | Ability | Pokémon with this Ability cannot be burned |
